Developer Avalanche Studios announced at E3 that the upcoming game, Just Cause 4, will not include an official multiplayer mode. However, this is not really a surprise as previous games in the series were exclusively single-player titles. Of course, this exempts unofficial yet recognized mods that added a multiplayer option in the last two games.
Speaking to PCGamesN, creative director Francesco Antoloni confirmed the news saying that, “Just Cause 4will not feature multiplayer.”
The hype over the possibility of Just Cause 4 having a multiplayer mode began when Cameron “Trix” Foote, a lead developer of the Just Cause 2 Multiplayer mod, joined Avalanche back in 2016.
“I’ll be able to bring many of the things you know and love from JC2-MP into future Avalanche experiences while reaching heights that a mere mod couldn’t facilitate,” Foote said when he joined the developer.
Just Cause 4 is scheduled to release December 4 via Steam for $60. Were you hoping to have an official multiplayer mode for Just Cause 4? Hopefully, modders will step up just as they did in previous games.
The DC Universe streaming service has never had a solid release date. Most people I know have been expecting the service to drop in November or December with a couple thinking October would be a good month. According to CinemaBlend, Dani Snow, who is the DC Entertainment Community Manager, commented in the James Bonding podcast that the service would appear in late August.
We know that with the streaming service launch we’ll get the premiere of Titans and they have more shows in the works including Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, Young Justice: Outsiders, and Harley Quinn.
I’m not 100% sold on joining the service yet, but I am very intrigued depending on pricing and if the shows are actually any good. Are you excited for DC Universe to launch?
Avengers: Infinity War writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have done an incredible job with the films that they've worked on with Marvel Studios. They have a great sense of character and story development. The two recently appeared on Kevin Smith's Fat Man on Batman and while Smith was talking to them, he asked how they would fix the DC Cinematic Universe.
"You guys have made wonderful films about people. You don't make movies about super heroes, you make movies about people who have these powers, and they happen to have these powers. That being said, if somebody offered you a fuckton of money and swayed you to the dark side and said, 'Fix these fucking movies,' how would you fix the DC universe?"
Markus responded with the following:
"I mean, I would look at what Marvel did out of necessity, in that they didn't have their A-list characters. They didn't have Spider-Man. They didn't have the X-Men. They went down a line and found a, I mean, he's pretty fucking famous, he's Iron Man, but he wasn't there, and they made a really good movie out of it."
He goes on to explain that if he was developing the DC Cinematic Universe, he would introduce the characters one by one in solo films rather than throwing them all together in one movie.
"I might put Batman and Superman and everybody else, I mean Wonder Woman is doing fine, aside for a second. Go through the vast world and go, 'That guy,' or 'That girl,' and go, 'Let's just make a really good movie and not a universe and see what happens.' There's a lot of spaghetti being thrown at the wall."
McFeely added his two cents, saying:
"My familiarity with the DC universe is not that great but I can just say, strategically, 'Make one.' To quote Justice League, 'Save one person.'"
In response to that Smith amusingly responds, "You would fix them with their own advice!" It sounds like that's what DC is actually starting to do now, though. They started in the right direction with Man of Steel, then they just jumped the gun and felt they need to rush to Justice League, which obviously didn't work out very well.
I'd like to believe that Warner Bros. has learned from there mistakes and that from here on out they will start making one great film after another. I'm excited for Aquaman, Shazam!, and Wonder Woman 1984, The Batman, and a few others, but then you have all those multiple Joker movies in development!
They have new people in charge of DC Entertainment, so it's going to be interesting to see how the DC films will turn out in the future. I hope that everything moving forward ends up being great!
What do you think about what Markus and McFeely had to say about fixing the DCEU?
I just learned that there was a Kingdom Hearts animated series in the works back in the early 2000’s. This may not be news to some fans, but it was to me. Nerdist recently posted a new episode of their show Animation Investigation and they got a chance to share some awesome and interesting details about the Kingdom Hearts series including why it was scrapped.
One of the coolest details, in my opinion, is that they were allowed to go use images from Disney movies such as Aladdin for the background and then they would insert the characters on those. It would’ve worked similar to those old Lilo & Stitch commercials.
The reason why the show was canceled was reportedly in order to keep a clean path open for future games. I’m a little sad we never got this show, but I can also see how it would’ve been really hard to not just copy the game.
Do you guys want a Kingdom Hearts animated series, or should they just leave it be?
I'm a sucker for found-footage film's and I'm especially digging the premise of this upcoming feature from IFC films called The Devil's Doorway. The film takes place at a women's home in Northern Ireland, where all sorts of women said to be living immoral lives in the eyes of the Catholic Church. Two priests travel to the home to document a miracle of a Virgin Mary statue weeping blood, and then things get weird. The film premieres on VOD July 13, so check out the synopsis (via Slashfilm) and trailer below and make sure to make a note of that if you're interested!
What unholy terrors lurk behind the walls of a secretive Irish convent? Northern Ireland, 1960: Father Thomas Riley (Lalor Roddy) and Father John Thornton (Ciaran Flynn) are dispatched by the Vatican to investigate reports of a miracle—a statue of the Virgin Mary weeping blood—at a remote Catholic asylum for “immoral” women. Armed with 16mm film cameras to record their findings, the priests instead discover a depraved horror show of sadistic nuns, satanism, and demonic possession. Supernatural forces are at work here—but they are not the doing of God. Inspired by the infamous true histories of Magdalene Laundries—in which “fallen women” were held captive by the Irish Catholic Church—this found footage occult shocker is a chilling encounter with unspeakable evil.
Mark Hamill recently revealed that he has never met Natalie Portman, which is weird considering the roles they play in the Star Wars saga. Padmé is the mother of Luke Skywalker and you'd think that throughout the years they would have met at some point. With all the Star Wars set visits and movie premieres, it just seems like they would have crossed paths.
The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson even said that she dropped by the set of the film while she was shooting Annihilation at Pinewood Studios, but Hamill was already done shooting his scenes.
Comcast has outbid Disney for Fox, but it looks like Fox may have a way to have their cake and eat it too. B. Riley analyst Barton Crockett has explained that there’s a way for Fox to divide the assets and give some to Comcast and some to Disney. Here’s his explanation:
This looks like a great way to appease all three parties, but is it good enough for all three? That’s the big question. If the assets are not divided, the question remains of who will win? I know many of you are rooting for Disney either because you hate Comcast or because of the Marvel heroes that would be able to enter the MCU. Another reason to want Disney to win though is that they would then have distribution rights to the original Star Wars films. Just food for thought.
Dust has created a lot of short film and video content over the years. We've shared a lot of them with you. Now they've produced a series that I think a lot of you might be interested in checking out. It's a sci-fi noir series called Automation that set in an alternate 1930s universe where robots, known as automatons, have been integrated into society. The lead robot character, Carl, is also played by Doug Jones. Here's the synopsis:
In an alternate 1930's Prohibition-era New York City, it's not liquor that is outlawed but the future production of highly sentient robots known as automatons. Automata follows former NYPD detective turned private eye Sam Regal and his incredibly smart automaton partner, Carl Swangee. Together, they work to solve the case and understand each other in this dystopian America.
Putting a science fiction twist on the classic hard-boiled detective drama, Automata explores a dystopian alternative version of Prohibition-era New York City, similarly shaped by moral panic even though the alcohol flows freely here. In this universe, Prohibition doesn't ban drinking, but the further production of sapient androids that have become prevalent by the 1920s. As a result, the existing androids, called automatons, are shunned by society, relegated to an untouchable caste of servants despite their near-human thought capability, and are frequently subjected to hatred and violence. It's in this oppressive setting that human private detective Sam Regal (Basil Harris, "Grimm") and his automaton partner Carl Swangee (Doug Jones, The Shape of Water) work together to solve cases for both communities, learning to see humanity in one another while trying to prove that justice is still worth serving.
It's a fun concept and the series has solid production value. It's a little rough around the edges but still enjoyable. You can watch the first of the five-episode series below. This first episode sparked my interest and I'm curious to see how this full story plays out.
Call of Duty has been a mainstay for the PC ever since the beginning of the franchise. However, Treyarch revealed in a video that they are putting more focus on the PC version of the game than previous titles in the past. The developer is currently placing a larger team in the development of the PC version to ensure attention to detail and customization options tailored-fit to the PC.
The upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 for the PC is being developed by Treyarch with the help of Beenox, a Quebec-based studio, that previously helped with the development of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered and Black Ops 3. However, for the upcoming Black Ops 4, Beenox is dedicated to developing more features for the PC version of the game, including the first title in the franchise that will be accessible on Blizzard’s Battle.net.
Firstly, significant attention has been put into fine-tuning the controls of the game for the PC. The developers are expecting that they would feel more natural on the platform with a plethora of customizations available for players. However, this does not mean that the default controls won’t be as good. Instead, Treyarch and Beenox promise to offer a broad set of options that will cater to personal preferences of players.
Beenox technical lead programmer, Philip Troie gave an example of optimizing controls for the PC. In Black Ops 4, if players want to throw a grenade. “If you want to throw a grenade, you can choose between cooking it by holding the mouse button or as a toggle. So you can also click once to start to cook it and click twice to throw it.”
Furthermore, Troie also talked about the importance of mouse sensitivity and how it is vital that players won’t be slowed down. Each game’s specialist will have the ability to configure controls and customize to what feels more natural to them.
Besides the controls, Black Ops 4 will also run well on a range of systems, even those players without a state of the art PC setup. “We wanted to make sure it ran great on the broadest array of hardware, Treyarch co-studio head Mark Gordon revealed. “Feeling great and running great were the two high-level goals.”
Concerning graphical performance, Black Ops 4 will be able to run in 4K HDR in an uncapped frame rate. The demo that was made available during E3 ran at above 150 FPS. The game will also be able to support ultra-wide monitors up to an aspect ratio of 32:9. The PC version of the game will ensure that the user interface will adjust to accommodate a wide range of monitors.
In the end, the team of Treyarch, Beenox and Blizzard hope to bring the best PC version of Black Ops 4 that the franchise has never seen in previous installments.
Thanks to EW, we have another awesome image to share with you from James Wan's Aquaman. This one gives you a great look at part of the epic and fantastical underwater realm that the story is set in.
The image is of an ancient meeting place called The Council of the Kings that’s fallen into ruin. This place is located on the outskirts of Atlantis. As you can there are Atlanteans riding sharks and sea dragons in this image, which is pretty damn cool!
According to the report, those are the armies of King Orm (Patrick Wilson) and King Nereus (Dolph Lundgren) facing off with each other. The image also came along with a breakdown of information that you'll find interesting:
1) When Atlantis sank into the ocean, it split into Seven Kingdoms. Each statue you see in the distance represents one of the original kings.
2) The Atlantean army on the right ride great white sharks into battle. “When you see these Atlantean army riding these sharks, it’s so photo-real it blows you away,” producer Peter Safran says.
3) King Nereus of the kingdom of Xebel and his men ride sea dragons. Director James Wan wanted to create these fearsome creatures, Safran notes, as a way of subverting the comic image of Aquaman riding a seahorse.
4) On the center right, you can see Orm astride his massive alligator-like “tylosaur.” Behind him, Vulko (Willem Dafoe) has mounted a giant black hammerhead shark.
This is just a little taste of the epic new underwater world that James Wan has created for this film and I can't wait to see more! I honestly never thought that I'd be so excited about an Aquaman movie.
The film also stars Jason Momoa; Amber Heard as Mera; Temuera Morrison (Green Lantern) as Tom Curry; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II(The Get Down) as Black Manta; Ludi Lin (Power Rangers) as Murk; and Nicole Kidman as Atlanna.
Aquaman will center on Aquaman as a reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis who is caught between land dwellers that are always polluting the globe and his own people who are ready to invade the surface.
Aquaman is set to be released December 21, 2018. Expect that trailer to drop soon!
