Heartwarming and Inspirational Trailer For Alfonso Cuaron’s New Film ROMA

heartwarming-and-inspirational-trailer-for-alfonso-cuarons-new-film-roma-social.jpg

The director of Gravity and Children of MenAlfonso Cuaron, has created a new film called Roma and Netflix has released a stirring teaser trailer for it that gives us our best look yet at what the movie will entail. The movie looks like it will be both heartwarming and inspirational. The trailer came with the following note:

Time and Space constrain us, but they also define who we are, creating inexplicable bonds with the others that flow with us at the same time and through the same places.

The movie is obviously going to tell a very intimate and human story and this is here's what the story it will tell is about:

ROMA chronicles a turbulent year in the lives of a middle-class family in 1970s Mexico City. Cuarón, inspired by the women from his childhood, delivers an artful ode to the matriarchy that shaped his world.
A vivid portrayal of domestic strife and social hierarchy amidst political turmoil, ROMA follows a young domestic worker Cleo (Yalitza Aparicio) from Mixteco heritage descent and her co-worker Adela (Nancy García), also Mixteca, who work for a small family in the middle-class neighborhood of Roma.  Mother of four, Sofia (Marina de Tavira), copes with the extended absence of her husband, Cleo faces her own devastating news that threatens to distract her from caring for Sofia’s children, whom she loves as her own. While trying to construct a new sense of love and solidarity in a context of a social hierarchy where class and race are perversely intertwined, Cleo and Sofia quietly wrestle with changes infiltrating the family home in a country facing confrontation between a government-backed militia and student demonstrators.
Filmed in luminous black and white, ROMA is an intimate, gut-wrenching and ultimately life-affirming portrait of the ways, small and large, one family maintains its balance in a time of personal, social and political strife.

Netflix has confirmed that the film will be "in theaters and on Netflix later this year." Cuaron is a great filmmaker and storyteller, and this looks like it tells a wonderful story.

CHILD’S PLAY 2 Star Says New Chucky Movie Reboot Is “A Dick Move”

Horror fans have been excited for Don Mancini's upcoming Child's Play series, but not so much about the separate film reboot that is being developed. One of the stars of Child's Play 2 is far from happy about that reboot. Christine Elise (who was also in Cult of Chucky) had some choice words regarding the reboot plans and did not mince words when talking about it (via Horror Geek Life ). She was asked:

As someone who is part of the inner circle of a franchise that is alive and well 30 years after it began, what are your thoughts about reports of a potential reboot of Child’s Play?

And this was her answer:

"I think it’s an unbelievably huge dick move. I think it’s a douche move absolutely. I don’t know why they would fuck with a healthy franchise. To make a competing franchise with an existing, and like you said healthy, robust franchise is super douchey. And nobody from the original franchise is involved; they’re not gonna have [actor] Brad Dourif, they’re not gonna have Don, and they’re not gonna have any of us.
"I think the doll is going to be an artificial intelligence doll that goes haywire, so it’s not going to have the whole element of the serial killer possessing it, et cetera, so it’s not going to be, really, a Chucky film. So I don’t know why they’re just taking the title and stealing it and mucking up the waters. It’s especially douchey when you know that Don is developing a TV series and going back to using the title Child’s Play; not Bride of, Seed of, Curse of, Cult of Chucky, it’s going back to the Child’s Play name and it’s deep into development. So this MGM project could have, it hasn’t but it could have, really, easily derailed the TV show project, which would be devastating, because fingers crossed it happens and fingers crossed I’m involved in it, as much as I would like to be. It’s an opportunity here where Don can further a story he’s been telling for 30 years, but rather than tell it in 90-minute segments every three years or more, he can tell 10 hours of story in 10 weeks, he can get that much more story ahead. And if you’ve seen Cult and you see how Cult ends, you know how rich in story it is, there’s so many doors open now, and to so insensitively threaten the Don Mancini empire I think, is fucked up."

What do you all think about the Child's Play reboot that is in development?

THE NUN May Have More Connections to THE CONJURING Films Than Originally Thought

the-nun-may-more-connections-to-the-conjuring-films-than-originally-thought-social.jpg

From what we've been hearing, the fourth film in The Conjuring cinematic universe, The Nun, is going to be the scariest of them all. That is yet to be seen, however, what we recently learned is that there may be more connections to The Conjuring films than we originally thought.

In The Conjuring 2, the nun is the big baddie of the story. Much like Annabelle, it was inevitable that the nun would get her own story. What we didn’t expect is that Taissa Farmiga, the younger sister of Vera Farmiga who plays Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring films, plays the younger version of the nun in this origin story. Here is what The Nun director Corin Hardy had to say in an interview with SFX about the casting of the younger Farmiga:

"Originally we were looking at casting an English actress. But Taissa was so good I couldn't not cast her. My concern was, if I cast her is it going to be, 'Oh, it's the easy option', but it wasn't! She's so right for the role, she possesses something extraordinary."

She was clearly cast because of her acting prowess, but is it going to mess with everyone’s head due to the distinct similarities in their appearance? Here is what Taissa had to say about it:

"To be honest, I thought, 'Oh, it's going to be weird if they cast me', because of the physical appearances.

Hardy went on to tease that we'll have to "wait and see" about any further connections between the films, but Taissa teased that there were things that were shot that would connect the films.

"Y'know, I'm not sure what they're going to do in editing. We filmed a few things, and we'll have to see what makes it into the final cut."

I am sure they will tweak some things to make the striking resemblance of the actresses not as striking. No matter what they do, I hope this movie is as scary as they are advertising it to be.

Nicolas Cage is Channeling Humphrey Bogart For His Spider-Man Noir Character in SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE

nicolas-cage-is-channeling-humphrey-bogart-for-his-spider-man-noir-character-in-spider-man-into-the-spider-verse-social.jpg

Nicolas Cage is taking on the role of Spider-Man Noir in Sony's upcoming animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. To bring this character to life, the actor talked to EW about preparing for the role of the darker 1930's take on Spider-Man. This alternate version of Peter Parker was an apprentice to reporter Ben Urich who was bitten by an illegally imported spider that gives him his superpowers. He uses those powers to wage a war on the criminal underground in the city. To bring this character to life, Cage explains that he channeled legendary actor Humphrey Bogart:

"I tried to channel those noir films with [Humphrey] Bogart, and have those kinds of sounds that he might make with [James] Cagney, or Edward G. Robinson, that kind of way of talking. I tried to give the character that. It was a lot of fun. I think it should be quite funny. The movie definitely has a sense of humor, and that’s a good thing because it’s good for the whole family."

We have yet to see or hear Spider-Man Noir in the upcoming film, but I'm looking forward to seeing him in action. I hope that he has a decent sized role, but there will be several other different versions of Spider-Man to juggle in this story. This is going to be such a cool movie!

Enter a universe where more than one wears the mask. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the creative minds behind “The Lego Movie” and “21 Jump Street,” bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.

The older middle-aged Peter Parker in the movie will be voiced by New Girl star Jake JohnsonLiev Schreiber is playing the larger-than-life crime lord Kingpin; Hailee Steinfeld will play spunky, free-spirited Spider-Gwen; Mahershala Ali will provide the voice for Miles’ uncle Aaron; Atlanta star Brian Tyree Henry will voice Miles’ father Jefferson. Rounding out the cast is Luna Lauren Velez as Miles’ mother Rio, and Lily Tomlin will be Aunt May.

The movie was developed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie, 21 Jump Street) and they brought a crazy awesome visual style to the film that I'm loving!

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be released on September 14th.

GOTHAM May Introduce Bane’s Father

Gotham is entering its final season, but if you thought that meant it was scaling back the number of villains it would introduce, you thought wrong! That Hashtag Show reported in a now-deleted article that the show is looking to cast an actor in their mid-30s to early 40s to play Eduardo Dorrance, aka "King Snake."

For those that don't know, Dorrance is Bane's father, so we'd have to speculate he'd make an appearance via a character closer to Bruce's age before the season is up. I also need to note that this article may have been deleted because the info was completely bogus, or because whoever gave that information to That Hashtag Show requested it be removed. We're not sure which is the truth in this case, but we'd like to know what your thoughts are on this potential casting news, and whether or not you'd like to see King Snake and Bane in Gotham?

The 4K Blu-ray Release of Steven Spielberg’s HOOK Will Feature 11 Never-Before-Seen Deleted Scenes

Hook may not be Steven Spielberg's best movie, but it does hold a special place in the hearts for many of those who grew up with it. I loved Hook when I was a kid, hell, I still enjoy watching the movie every now and then!

For those of you who are fans of the film, you'll be happy to know that the upcoming 4K Blu-ray release will include 11 never-before-seen deleted scenes from the film! I have no idea what those scenes will entail, but I'm excited to see what they are!

Here are the details that were released:

Hook is fully restored in 4K from the original camera negative, with approval on the 4K High Dynamic Range master from director Steven Spielberg. In addition, the film features exclusive Dolby Atmos audio for maximum impact and includes 11 never-before-seen deleted scenes—a rare treat for fans and newcomers alike.

There are so many great things about Hook that I enjoy but if it's not your thing, I understand. But, I suggest that you give it another go at some point, just because. Here's the synopsis:

A high-flying adventure from the magic of Steven Spielberg, Hook stars Robin Williams as a grown-up Peter Pan and Dustin Hoffman as the infamous Captain Hook. Joining the fun is Julia Roberts as Tinkerbell, Bob Hoskins as the pirate Smee, and Maggie Smith as Granny Wendy Darling, who must convince middle-aged lawyer Peter Banning that he was once the legendary Peter Pan. And so the adventure begins anew, with Peter off to Neverland to save his two children from Captain Hook. Along the way, he rediscovers the power of imagination, friendship, and of magic. A classic tale updated for children of all ages, Hook was nominated for five Academy Awards® including Best Visual Effects in 1991.

The Hook 4K Blu-ray will be available for purchase on October 9, 2018.

Microsoft Confirms That HALO: INFINITE Is HALO 6

halo infinite (1).jpg

Microsoft has been adamant for years that they wanted to drop the numbered label in Halo games. However, a few fans were still confused when the publisher revealed Halo: Infinite at E3 and not Halo 6. Fans were not sure whether this game is a prequel, a spin-off or a proper entry in the main series. To clear up the confusion, Jeff Easterling from 343 Industries has spoken to make it clear that Halo: Infinite = Halo 6.

“It is Halo 6, Easterling cleared up in a Mixer broadcast (via Gamespot). “You should just consider it Halo 6. Don’t think of it as a weird prequel kind of thing. It’s the next story. It’s the next chapter in what is going on.”

This is not the first time the developers of Halo tried to clear up the confusion as studio head Chris Lee already mentioned that Halo: Infinite will continue the events of 2015’s Halo 5: Guardians. Moreover, 343 also revealed that although Halo 5 revolved around on both Master Chief and Agent Locke, Infinite will primarily focus on Master Chief.

Halo: Infinite still doesn’t have a release date at the moment but is expected to release on the Windows PC and Xbox One.

Dave Filoni Discusses His Role With STAR WARS RESISTANCE and How He’s Getting Back into CLONE WARS Mode

For all of you who are excited for the upcoming Star Wars Resistance, we still don't know very much. Just a few little things here and there that we've gotten. But just the thought that showrunner Dave Filoni (Star Wars: Clone Wars) is going to bring us another show helps boosts its awesomeness. Then here lies the rub. Filoni isn't going to be involved very much with the project.

In an interview with IGN, this is what Filoni says concerning his role in the upcoming series:

"Resistance is a bit different, in that I’m not on that day-to-day. I created and set it in motion, but I’ve given that to other people to raise up, people that I’ve worked with a long time, who I think deserve the opportunity to tell stories and I think it’s exciting, and I give them my thoughts and notes – I was just doing that this morning, like George would give me. So that’s fun."

There will be touches of Dave’s work in the series, but he is leaving most of the heavy lifting to his trusted co-workers. He also goes into how jumping back into Clone Wars is going:

"With Clone Wars I’m very in the weeds on that and will have to be, because I myself have had to go back and watch a whole bunch of stuff that I had done, and I went back and watched Revenge of the Sith and Attack of the Clones in depth again. I’m like, 'I have to upload this whole timeline.' Just the intricacy of how the clones got made and where Dooku was and all of those things were stuff that I was just doing from memory at the time, because I was in it. Then I switched time periods and went on and did Star Wars Rebels, so to go back into Clone Wars, I have to remember, “Wait – where was everybody? How did that work?” And I had charts and figured all this stuff out, but I’ve uploaded the chip now, so I’m good."

When the show was first announced, we learned that it would revolve around a character named Kazuda Xiono, who is described as "a young pilot recruited by the Resistance whose mission is to spy on the growing threat of the First Order." We also knew that Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) would be a part of this new Star Wars adventure. We also have a synopsis for the series:

Resistance fighter Poe Dameron tasks young pilot Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono with spying on the First Order. At the time, little was known about the secretive organization and its strength.
In order to fulfill his mission, Kaz travels to the space station Colossus, which is being used by many ships as a port to refuel and do repairs. However, there are also dangerous races taking place there. After Kaz bragged with his piloting skills at his arrival there, he is soon drawn into one of the races…

To be honest with you, there has been a hole in the Star Wars universe for me since Rebels ended. The last few episodes were very emotional for me, but we can talk about that later. For now, it is good to know that there are more stories to come. What do you think?

Jesse Plemons Joins Keri Russell in Guillermo del Toro’s Horror Thriller ANTLERS

Jesse Plemons is set to star along Keri Russell in the upcoming supernatural horror-thriller Antlers. The film is set up at Fox Searchlight and it's one of the projects that Guillermo del Toro set up to produce with David Goyer.

The movie is being directed by Scott Cooper, who previously worked with Plemons on Black Mass and Hostiles. We don't know who exactly Plemons is playing but the story follows a teacher (Keri Russell) "who takes an interest in a mysterious and withdrawn student. As they become closer, she discovers that the boy is harboring a secret that could have deadly consequences."

The script for the film was written by Nick Antosca and Henry Chaisson and it's based on Antosca’s short story "The Quiet Boy."

Plemons is currently filming Jungle Cruise opposite Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt and will next be seen in the Martin Scorsese gangster film The Irishman
