First Set of Returning Rangers Announced for 25th Anniversary Special

Fox Kids aired Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on August 28, 1993. It’s been going for 25 years now, and to commemorate the occasion, they’re making a special episode of Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel for fans. Many fans have been expecting a lot of previous Rangers to appear and now we have the first three for the list. Tommy Oliver who is played by Jason David Frank, Kat Hillard who is played by Catherine Sutherland, and Wes Collins played by Jason Faunt will be appearing in the episode. I was not shocked to learn that Frank was in the episode as he has been in pretty much everything related to Power Rangers for the last several years. It’ll be nice to see Sutherland and Faunt back in action though. If you forgot, Kat Hillard was the second Pink Ranger in Mighty Morphin who then went through Zeo and Turbo before giving the power to Cassie. Wes is the Red Time Force Ranger. I imagine we’ll be hearing about a lot more returning Rangers in the weeks to come, but who do you hope shows up?

To make the episode even more special, Nickelodeon will be airing it at 8 PM on August 28. Exactly 25 laters, to the day. I am excited for this episode!

Here’s a List of Some Non-Marvel Properties That Disney Will Get From Fox

Disney has basically acquired Fox. They technically have some more hurdles to go through, but everyone is expecting it to be fine. Of course, the biggest thing that Marvel fans are excited about is the fact that X-Men and Fantastic Four characters will be able to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, what else is Disney acquiring? I’ve put together a brief look into some of the other things Disney has acquired with a big one at the end.

The Simpsons
Family Guy
Avatar
(the blue people one)
American Dad!
King of the Hill
Bob’s Burgers
Alien
Predator
The X-Files
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
American Horror Story
Ice Age
Rio
The Peanuts Movie
Ferdinand
Home Alone
Miracle on 34th Street
The Sound of Music
Planet of the Apes

Everything from Fox Searchlight
Modern Family
Futurama
24
Buffy the Vampire Slayer

The last one I want to mention is for Star Wars fans. Disney will now own 100% of the distribution rights for the original trilogy. This means that Disney could release Blu-ray versions of the original trilogy that features the original theatrical release. There is some speculation that such a thing is physically impossible, but if Disney is smart, they’ll find a way. Do you think Disney will do anything with all of these new properties, or will they remain untouched by the Mouse?

CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA Gets a Release Date and New Photo of Sabrina

chilling_adventures_sabrina.jpg

If you’re excited for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, you’ll be happy to know that we finally have a release date! You can expect the show to appear on the streaming service Netflix on October 26 with 10 episodes. I also included a new photo below featuring Sabrina and Harvey.

The show will focus on Sabrina Spellman as she navigates this crazy thing we call life, but unlike most of us, she's a witch.

Sabrina reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age tale that traffics in horror, the occult and witchcraft. It’s described as in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist and finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.

Kiernan Shipka will play the role of Sabrina, and she will be joined by Ross Lynch, Lucy Davis, Miranda Otto, Jaz Sinclair, Tati Gabrielle, Chance Perdomo, Michelle Gomez, Ricard Coyle, and Bronson Pinchot.

Are you excited to see this darker take on Sabrina?

Build-A-Bear is Giving Us an Adorable Green Power Ranger Bear

In celebration of 25 years of Power Rangers, Build-A-Bear has announced a Green Ranger bear! This guy is adorable, and I want one. It comes with the shield, but if you want the Dragon Dagger (they call it a sword) it will cost $12 extra in the US, but just look at how adorable that is.

green_ranger_bear.jpg

The bear itself will retail for $28 in the US and will be released on August 2. I’m hoping that more Rangers are announced as well. I’d love an original Red Ranger or the Gold Ranger from Zeo. It’s a real shame the announcement came after the Pay-Your-Age campaign that they had so many problems with. I would’ve taken my baby girl there and gotten a steal!

Chief product officer for Build-A-Bear, Jennifer Kretchmar, said the following:

For more than two decades, the Power Rangers franchise has inspired imaginations and spurred creativity in children and young adults. As we celebrate our 20th year in business, the new Power Rangers collection at Build-A-Bear Workshop will allow original enthusiasts and the next generation of adventure-seeking fans to hug and play with the iconic rangers.

Janet Hsu, former CEO for Saban Brands, also said this:

The Power Rangers franchise has resonated with fans of all ages around the world for 24 years largely in part because many people see themselves within at least one or all of the Rangers. With Build-A-Bear Workshop, fans can now use their creativity to further identify and personalize their experience with the Power Rangers.

Do you want this Ranger bear? Is there another Ranger you want in bear form?

Sinemia is Lowering Their Prices for the Summer

If you're looking for another option besides Movie Pass with all of its recent issues, Sinemia just got even better for new subscribers! The movie ticket subscription service has decided to lower their prices for the summer. This comes at a time when their main competition, MoviePass, is introducing the peak-pricing model which raises the price of the tickets. If you sign up with Sinemia now, you’ll get $1 off a month for a total of $3.99 per month for the most basic tier that allows for one movie a month or $13.99 per month for 3 movies a month. Since you have to pay for a year at once, that means that you’re saving $12 no matter what plan you choose. I know that’s not much, but every little bit counts. Plus, you’ll still be eligible for the gift cards from Restaurant.com that the service recently announced. I wish Sinemia worked in my area since this seems like the perfect option for me. Does this help sway you to subscribe?

That LEGO Voltron Set Can Be Pre-Ordered By LEGO VIPs Now

Apparently, I was wrong last time I wrote about the Voltron LEGO set and it wasn’t available for any kind of pre-order. However, if you are a LEGO VIP, you can now preorder it. It is free to become a VIP, it just takes a little bit of time and you have to agree to their terms and conditions.

The set will drop August 1 alongside a lot of other major new sets so expect chaos at all stores that are carrying LEGOs. Pre-order will be the best way to make sure you get your set. Remember, this comes with the pieces to create all five lions and then combine them to form Voltron!

Netflix Has Just Revamped Profile Icons

netflix.jpg

In August 2013, Netflix introduced the profiles feature for the streaming service. With each profile, you could change the profile icon to be a little more unique for easy identification of which user was which.

In honor of the 5-year anniversary, Netflix is revamping profile icons and it’s pretty cool. If you login now, you’ll notice your icon has undergone a makeover. All the original icons are still there, but they’ve been updated.

In addition, Netflix has created new icons based on some of their original content. You can now have an icon from some shows and films such as Bright, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Voltron: Legendary Defender, Stranger Things, and more.

That’s right, we can all change our icons to our favorite babysitter, Steve from Stranger Things. This isn’t any kind of earth-shattering change, but it’s a nice little update to celebrate the streaming service.

I’m hoping they continue to add more as I’d love to do a The Seven Deadly Sins icon.

Diego and Abuela Valerie Have Been Cast in the Live-Action DORA THE EXPLORER Movie

I am still little shocked when I see news about a live-action Dora the Explorer movie. However, we recently learned who will play Dora’s cousin Diego, and who will be Abuela Valerie (Dora’s grandmother).

Micke Moreno from Ojitos Hechiceros and Escobar: Paradise Lost will be the adventurous Diego.

Meanwhile, Drag Me to Hell, Thor, and Babel actress Adriana Barraza will be Abuela Valerie. They will join Isabela Moner from Transformers: The Last Knight who will play Dora.

Dora the Explorer will be directed by James Bobin with Danielle Sanchez-Witzel and Nicholas Stoller writing the script. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes will be producing the film along with Andrew Form and Brad Fuller. It is reported that production will begin later this year in Australia.

Austin St. John Talks About How His Parents Influenced Jason from POWER RANGERS

ComicBook caught up with Austin St. John at San Diego Comic-Con and they had an interesting interview. During the interview, there are three things that I took away. First, you can go to St. John’s website for awesome merchandise as well as news. Second, he based his classic Power Rangers character, Jason Lee Scott, on his kick-butt parents! Third, if the script was right (and he trusts Amy Jo Johnson and David Yost to do it right) he would do a Power Rangers reunion film. Going back to that second point though, in the interview he was asked how he created such an iconic Ranger and St. John took a minute to go into great detail of how he got inspiration from his parents.

Walk softly and carry a big stick. I modeled the character after my mom and dad. My mom was one of the, well she was the first female cop in the state of New Mexico in the 70s. It was either the state or the city of Roswell, but I mean it was the 70s, where her own police brothers and...well they were all brothers at the time, one of them tried to have her killed because she wore a skirt and wanted a badge and a gun. So my mom was and is a tough lady, but she knows how to be a lady.”

My father, a Mustang in the Marine Corps which means he was enlisted, got out, went to college, and came back as an officer, so he’s exceptionally respected because he understands what enlisted men go through and he’s still an officer. He was the kind of guy that would walk into the room and was very soft-spoken, but when he walked into the room people shut up and heads turned and they paid attention.

So he never had to command that sort of attention, and neither did my mother. They were always just respected, and I think that’s what I wanted for Jason. I wanted him to let his team have all the light and glory they needed, and only step forward when he had to. He wasn’t a guy who wanted to be a leader. He wasn’t a guy who saw himself as the great. He wasn’t a showboat. He wasn’t flashy or fancy, he was a guy that needed to be there when it hit the fan.

So I think humility, respect for his teammates, and I guess always looking to do what’s right, no matter how hard it is, and it’s easier kind of said than done, but that is what I tried for anyway and I hope it worked. It’s something I’ve carried through with my real life despite a few colossal mistakes I think I’ve done a pretty good job.

Those are some pretty awesome parents and great inspiration for any leader character. You can watch the full interview at the link above.
