Atari has partnered with producer Scott Sternberg to create a game show based on what is one of, if not the, most recognized video games ever: Pong. The show will be called Million Dollar Pong and I have no idea how it will work. Isn’t the real-life version of Pong tennis or table tennis if you want something smaller? Sternberg has worked on other shows including Hollywood Squares, The Gong Show, and Kid’s Wheel of Fortune. He says the following about Million Dollar Pong:
It’s true that Pong and Atari are iconic brands, but I’m still not sure what kind of game show they can make. It’s important to note that there is not a network attached to the show yet. Here’s what Atari CEO, Frederic Chesnais, had to say about the project:
Do you think this is a good idea? How would you design this game show?
For those that don’t know, there is a live-action Anastasia film in the works. The story of Anastasia Romanov will be re-imagined and have some time travel involved. Czar Nicholas, Anastasia’s father, will be played by Brandon Routh. Routh is known for his roles in Superman Returns, Chuck, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, and Legends of Tomorrow. He’s a good actor and I’m interested to see if he can pull off being Russian.
Routh will be appearing next to Emily Carey who will play Anastasia, Amiah Miller who will play an American who befriends Anastasia, and Aliyah Moulden who will be an ‘80’s popstar. The film will take place in 1917, but when Vladimir Lenin threatens the Romanov family, Anastasia escapes through a portal that takes her to the year 1988. I’m not sure if this sounds amazing or terrible. The 1988 portion was filmed last summer with the 1917 portion being filmed starting in April. I’m interested to see how director Blake Harris’ take on the story of Anastasia plays out.
The beloved Disneyland ride Jungle Cruise is going to be a movie starring Dwayne Johnson and today we learned that Emily Blunt is joining the cast. Blunt will co-star in Jungle Cruise, but unfortunately, we don’t know anything about the plot yet.
What we do know is that it will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows) from a script written by Michael Green (Logan). The film is based on the classic theme park attraction, which operates in several Disney Parks across the globe and takes guests on a guided tour through the rivers of the world. According to the report:
Johnson and the team see the film inspired by “The African Queen” starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn and hope to see the similar kind of chemistry with this pairing. Sources say Disney has been over the moon with early footage of Blunt in “Mary Poppins” returns and was looking for a way to keep her in the family with another potential franchise.
I still think it’s crazy how Disney is able to take one of their theme park rides and turn it into a movie. They’ve done it at least twice before with Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion. I feel like Jungle Cruise will either be really good, or it’ll be a dud. I guess we’ll just have to wait and find out though. The film project goes into production in May.
How would you write the story for this theme park movie?
Just a few weeks ago, we learned that Gambitlost its director. This loss moved the release of the film from February 2019 to June 2019. Unfortunately, it appears the movie has suffered a larger blow as Fox seems to have removed it from their production schedule. It’s been reported that the film was going to try to start production as early as March 2018, but it looks like they may be struggling to find a new director. It’s also reported that this summer is when the film will be filmed but in Montreal instead of New Orleans. Montreal is where X-Men: Apocalypse was filmed, and I think it would be a huge waste to not film in New Orleans. It just seems wrong to film a movie about the “Ragin’ Cajun” anywhere outside of New Orleans. Channing Tatum is still set to star as Gambit in the film and rumor still has it that it will be a heist film and I’m sure it will have plenty of comedy. If it doesn’t, it’s doing something wrong.
I’m beginning to wonder if this film will actually happen or not. Then again, maybe with Disney buying out Fox, that’s for the best? Perhaps Gambit will make his way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and we’ll get to see him team up with Ant-Man for the ultimate heist.
I’m sure you’ve seen those posts made by mostly guys saying stuff like “If I get X Likes then my wife will let me name our child (insert character name from their fandom).” I’ve seen this a lot with Spider-Man. I don’t know why people want to give their kids ridiculous names, but they do. Well, one of these posts garnered over 1 million Likes and the wife has agreed to hold up her end of the bargain. Her son's name will be Goku (from Dragon Ball Z) Sanchez. I hope for the kid’s sake that he gets a normal middle name that he can go by. I will admit Goku is a better name than some I've heard, but that still does not make it great. If you could name your child after a character with a crazy name, what would it be?
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is controversial, but I think most of us can agree there was at least one cool scene. Rey and Kylo Ren teaming up to fight Snoke’s Praetorian Guards. It was the coolest freaking scene in that film. Well, remember those Pennywise Dancing memes? Yeah, someone has done that to the coolest scene in The Last Jedi. The results are hilarious! You can find them all on @rachlikesbands' Twitter. My favorite is the “Toxic” by Britney Spears. Which is your favorite?
A couple of years ago, the great composer Hans Zimmer announced that he was “retiring” from superhero movies. He provided the scores for The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and many more. Thankfully, it seems he’s coming out of his self-imposed retirement to score X-Men: Dark Phoenix. This announcement was made by accident by Evan Peters who was talking to HappySadConfused at Sundance. He said:
My excitement for this film has just jumped up a few notches. I love Zimmer’s scores. Batman Begins has one of my favorite musical scores from a film, so I’m excited to hear what he does with Dark Phoenix. You can listen to the podcast and the talk about Dark Phoenix starts around the 28-minute mark.
The Walking Dead has a pretty cool, ominous, intense opening theme. It fits perfectly for a show about a post-apocalyptic world where you don’t always know if you’re going to live to see tomorrow. What if this show had come out in the 1980’s though? We most certainly would have more mullets in the show and more denim. I’m not sure if those are negatives or positives, but we also probably would have had a slightly different sounding theme song. Synthesizers were huge back in the 1980’s and GentleBruce has done a synth version of this haunting theme and it might be more haunting than the original. What do you think Carl would’ve looked like in the 80’s?
Contrary to what many movies would have you believe; high school didn’t suck for me. I wasn’t a jock, or a popular kid by any means, but it still didn’t suck. However, I still really enjoy teen high school movies like Mean Girls and John Tucker Must Die. Dear Dictator seems to be another high school teen movie that I am going to love and we finally have a trailer for it! Before we get to the trailer though, here’s a quick synopsis:
Sounds great, right? Well then you throw in the cast of Jason Biggs, Michael Caine, Seth Green, Katie Holmes, and Odeya Rush and things get even better! Dear Dictator is set to come out March 16, 2018, and I’m excited.
If you’re a fan of Cardcaptor Sakura, you may be excited to hear that Monica Rial and Jason Liebrecht will be back for the English dub of Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card. Rial will be Sakura and Liebrecht will reprise his role as Syaoran. These voice actors first played these roles for the dub of Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. This announcement was made in a fun video from Funimation that features the actors playing Go Fish with the Clow Cards. Funimation’s simuldub for Clear Card starts on January 24, 2018, and I’m excited to see it!
