This isn’t going to come as a surprise to anyone, but Ryan Coogler is set to write and direct Black Panther 2 for Marvel Studios.
Chadwick Boseman is expected to reprise his role as King T'Challa and I imagine he’ll be joined by the rest of the ensemble cast that ends up living through whatever happens in Avengers 4.
Coogler did a decent job with the first movie and it was praised by a lot of fans. Marvel and Disney were so happy with it that they are pushing for 16 Oscar nominations including Best Picture and Best Director.
A release date has not been set yet and plot details have yet to be revealed. According to Variety, production is expected to start at the end of 2019 or early 2020, depending on when the script is ready.
Coogler might actually shoot a smaller film before jumping into the Black Panther sequel. That film might be a remake of 12 Angry Men.
I’m excited to see where the story for the sequel takes Black Panther next. Who would you like to see as the villain?
We recently found out that Rooster Teeth’s series RWBY and gen:LOCK were getting comics made by DC. According to VIZ Media, RWBY will also be getting a new manga in English releases of Shonen Jump starting this Fall.
The manga will be written by Bunta Kinami. There’s no word on what the new manga will include, but the art for the announcement is amazing! Will it be a one-shot, or an adaptation of the series? Also, could this open the way for Team RWBY to appear in Jump Force?
A music video was recently released for the new song by LCD Soundsystem called “Oh Baby”. The music video was directed by Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, Star Wars: The Last Jedi). If you’re a fan of Johnson’s work, then I’m sure you’re going to love what he created here. If you’re not a fan, then you’ll probably just use this an another opportunity to bash on The Last Jedi.
Johnson actually directed this while he was working on The Last Jedi. The music video is more of a short film that tells a sci-fi-based story about a couple who invent a teleportation device. The couple in the music video is played by Sissy Spacek and David Strathairn and it’s actually quite a sweet and tragic story.
Jamie Lee Curtis is one of the most recognizable faces in the Halloween franchise, so it’s surprising to hear the actress thought she was going to be fired from the first film. Curtis shared with EW a funny story that turned out just to be her paranoia more than anything:
I remember the phone rang in my apartment and my roommate Tina said, ‘Jamie, John Carpenter’s on the phone. It scared me, because I didn’t know if he was going to fire me. Often I’d heard people got fired. He was on the other end of the phone and he said, ‘Hey darling, it’s John. I just want to tell you I thought today went great. I‘m so happy.'
What a relief it must’ve been to receive news the exact opposite of what she was expecting! It’s hard to believe Curtis had any real reason to expect she was losing her gig considering how great she was in the film. Hopefully she’s just as good in the new one! Halloween is in theaters October 19th.
Lawrence Kasdan is pushing the Star Wars franchise off to the side for a new film project called November Road that he will write and direct. The film is based on on an upcoming novel from Edgar Award-winning author Lou Berney and the story revolves around the period of the JFK assassination. Here’s the description that was provided:
In the spirit of No Country for Old Men, Man on Fire, and Witness, November Road is a story of second chances and redemption. It’s November 22, 1963, JFK has just been assassinated, and all Frank Guidry was supposed to do was get rid of the car – the same car, he realizes, that he had personally delivered to Dealey Plaza a week before. This connects him to the president’s murder and, when other loose ends begin dying all around him, Frank knows he’s next. Hunted by a ruthless hitman hired by his ex-boss, Frank heads across the desert where he meets Charlotte Roy, who is running away from her smalltown life and abusive alcoholic husband with two young daughters and an epileptic dog in tow. Guidry sees this instant family scenario as the perfect cover and while he might get her killed, Charlotte sees him as her best chance at a new life, if they can escape before his past catches up to him.
This seems like a great project for Kasdan to take on and this is what he had to say in a statement:
“November Road is a mesmerizing novel — a brutal, nerve-wracking crime thriller combined with a stirring, romantic love story. The book is populated by funny, surprising characters of many ages and will make a hugely entertaining and emotional movie.”
The author of the book went on to say that Kasdan is “one of the best filmmakers in the world, with a list of iconic films to his credit. He has just the right sensitivity and humanity for a book that crosses multiple genres but is ultimately a love story.”
Some of the Kasdan’s previous work includes Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, The Bodyguard, The Force Awakens, and Solo: A Star Wars Story. He also directing films such as The Big Chill, Body Heat, Silverado and The Accidental Tourist.
THR is reporting that Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw are optioning their comic God Country for a film adaptation by Legendary Entertainment and AfterShock Media. God Country is part of Image Comics, was published in 2017, and ran for six issues.
Cates is set to adapt the story himself. Jon Silk of Legendary initiated the project and will oversee it alongside Jay Ashenfelter and AfterShock’s Lee Kramer and Jon Kramer. If you’re unfamiliar with God Country, here’s a synopsis:
This could end up being an awesome series. Does this sound like a story you’d like to see brought to life on the big screen?
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald isn’t out for another month, but Johnny Depp has seemingly confirmed he’s on board for the third film. Depp said the following when speaking to Collider about his experience shooting the second film and the franchise’s future:
The possibilities in that world are wide open, so you can really try anything. So it was a gas and I look forward to the next installment, which I think we start the middle of next year.
That seems like a silly thing to say if he’s not involved, although Grindelwald’s survival to the next film shouldn’t come as a big surprise to Harry Potter fans. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald is out in theaters November 17th.
The DC Comics comic book property Secret Six is being developed into a drama series by CBS. This is a comic that I’m not really familiar with, but judging from the description, it sounds like it will be an intriguing show.
Secret Six follows “six morally ambiguous strangers, each with their own unique specialties and secret pasts. They are brought together by an enigmatic figure who blackmails them into working as a team to expose the corruption of the corporate and political elite.”
The Secret Six has had a rotating roster of members over the years that includes Bane, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor, Mad Hatter, Penguin, Deadshot, Cheshire, Scandal Savage, Fiddler, Catman and more. I imagine the series will focus more on the lesser known characters.
The series seems like it will be very similar to Suicide Squad as it centers on a team of misfit rogues who are forced to do good. Who knows, maybe Secret Six will do it better!
The series will be written by Rick Muirragui (Suits) who will also be an executive produce alongside Bill Lawrence (Scrubs) and Jeff Ingold.
Is this a DC series you’d be excited about watching?
One of my favorite Michael Keaton comedies is a 1983 film called Mr. Mom which was written by the great John Hughes. I enjoyed watching this movie all the time when I was growing up. Who would have thought that when I grew up I would have a job working from home allowing me to have my own crazy Mr. Mom adventures.
It’s now being reported that the classic film is being revived as a digital series by MGM. This is part of a new partnership with Walmart-owned streaming platform Vudu. They intend to produce “a slate of short-form scripted content adapted from a library of classic intellectual property that offers the opportunity to serialize everything from James Bond to The Pink Panther.”
The producing team and executives behind the series see Mr. Mom as a way to “capitalize on the nostalgia parents have for the entertainment choices they grew up with, and their desire to share that content with their children.” Julian Franco, head of AVOD content and advertising at Vudu had this to say:
“As parents, we want to share with kids the TV shows and movies that we grew up with. They made us feel something. the Reality is we want our kids to feel the same thing too.
“We thought it would be a good first step for us. We’re going to reboot it. IT’s an American classic. Anybody that remembers it loves it.”
I can understand that. The series is said to be a “continuation of the baby Megan’s story, when as a grown adult, she wants to go back to the work force and her husband must go on parenting duty.”
If they get a good team or writers and a talented cast, this could end up being a decent and enjoyable series. But, I doubt it will be as good as what we got in the original film.
Ever since the launch of the PlayStation 4 five years ago, players have been bombarding Sony to allow them to change their PSN Online ID on the console. After years of resistance, Sony finally confirms that it will begin testing the feature allowing players to change their name on the platform as it enters the PlayStation’s Preview Program.
Currently, the feature is only available to players who have previously registered as testers for PS4 system software betas. For everyone that is registered and has access, the first name change will be for free. However, subsequent changes will cost $10 for regular users and $5 for PlayStation Plus members.
Changing your name in PSN is rather simple. All you have to do is access the feature via the settings menu or the profile page of your PS4. From there, you can simply change your name, which even includes the option to display your previous PSN ID alongside your new one so friends can recognize you. It is important to note that the decision to place your old ID beside your new one will be crucial because you won’t be able to change this after you decide whether or not to display your old PSN ID.
Another thing to remember is that not all games will support the name change. However, Sony revealed that it will be compatible with all PS4 games released after April 1, 2018, and “the majority of the most-played PS4 games.” In case the player encounters issues related to the name change, Sony will allow you to revert back to your old ID for free.
The preview program will run until the end of November this year, and Sony plans to make the feature available to all users in early 2019. Lastly, the company also promised to release a full list of compatible games before the feature is rolled out worldwide.
