Dave Bautista To Join FANTASY ISLAND which is Described as WESTWORLD Meets THE CABIN IN THE WOODS

Dave Bautista is in negotiations to join the upcoming film adaptation of the classic TV series Fantasy Island. He will join Michael Peña, who is talking on the role of the iconic character Mr. Roarke.

The movie is described as being a “tonal mix of Westworld meets The Cabin in the Woods, centering on a group of contest winners who arrive at an island hotel to live out their dreams, only to find themselves trapped in nightmare scenarios. “

If the deal closes, Bautista will play “a former guest who is still on the island against his will and who wants to expose Roarke and the island’s magical secrets.”

This could actually make for a good movie! The studio is bring together a solid cast and it’s being directed by Jeff Wadlow. He previously directed Truth or Dare for Blumhouse, which is the studio producing Fantasy Island.

Blumhouse has been having a great run with horror movies the past few years and from the sound of it, Fantasy Island could be end up being more of a horror film, which would be fun.

Dave Bautista recently expressed interest in joining James Gunn’s Suicide Squad 2 and if he does, I hope he plays King Shark!

Barry Teaches Nora The Basics In New Preview For THE FLASH

The Flash returned for Season 5 last night, and while I’m usually on the fence about Flash episodes at the start of ever season, I have to say I enjoyed the premiere. It looks like episode 2 will have a lot more of Barry and Nora action, as Barry will work to teach Nora the basics of being a speedster. Check out a clip of him trying to show Nora the ropes below, and let us know what you thought of the premiere:

David Ayer Is Supportive Of James Gunn Taking Over SUICIDE SQUAD 2

Many have shown their support for the buzz that James Gunn will write and possibly direct the next Suicide Squad film, including the first film’s director David Ayer. Ayer recently commented on what he thought of the news to a curious fan:

Ayer doesn’t seem to have any hurt feelings he wasn’t asked back, which makes sense considering Gavin O’ Conner was originally attached to the sequel. Gunn directing Suicide Squad 2 is by no means official at this time, so that may still be the case. We’ll just have to wait and hear from WB!

New Motion Poster For GLASS Features Samuel L. Jackson’s Mr. Glass

The final motion poster has arrived for M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass in preparation for the new trailer that will be unleashed for the film tomorrow. The poster puts the focus on Samuel L. Jackson’s character Mr. Glass. This character is the mastermind behind everything going on between the heroes and villains in this universe. The posters previously released featured James McAvoy as The Beast and Bruce Willis as David Dunn. I can’t wait to see that trailer tomorrow!

The film also stars Anya Taylor Joy as Casey, Sarah Paulson as Doctor Ellie Staple who plays a vital role in the story as she is treating the main characters in a mental institute.

Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.

During a previous interview, the director opened up a little bit about the film's story and explains that there's a philosophical conflict at the heart of the film that will set it apart from Unbreakable and Glass.

"I think there’s definitely a philosophical conflict at the center of the movie which is, you know, are they are they deluded to think these things? Or is that belief in oneself ultimately something that truly makes them something more?

"That kind of belief is a tenuous thing for people. Even if we can do extraordinary things, is it something that we’re interpreting when we do that or are some people really special or not? The movie’s really about doubt versus belief and so every scene has that weight to it and that struggle is there."

He went on to say that the film is a character-driven story that was inspired by the classic film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

"It’s a contained, character-driven thriller that happens to be about this subject. There’s very little CGI and it’s not about the spectacle. It’s really about the characters. One of my favorite films is One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and there’s a lot of that in this in this movie."

Glass will be released on January 18th, 2019.

Review: FIRST MAN Makes Space Travel Look Absolutely Terrifying

When I was growing up as a kid I always wanted to be an astronaut. I loved NASA, I still love NASA! The history behind it is so fascinating, especially the story of America’s race to beat the Russians to the moon.

First Man tells the story of NASA’s incredible journey to the moon in a way that I’ve never imagined and I’ll be honest… it was absolutely terrifying! If I would have watched a movie like this when I was a kid, there’s no way in hell I would ever want to have been an astronaut!

Director Damian Chazelle put a lot of attention to detail in this film and when it came to creating those space shuttle launch sequences, I felt like I was there experiencing it! He wanted to make you feel the madness of what those launches where like for the crew of those ships. NASA was basically sending human beings into space in tin cans and watching a movie like this makes you think about how freakin’ lucky some of these guys were to have survived it!

Not only were the visuals spectacular, but the sound in this movie was key to bringing these epic sequences to life. I was completely blown away by the technical aspect of the film. You really felt like you were experiencing what these astronauts experiences. It was such an awesomely immersive experience!

As far as the story goes, the film basically gave us the cliff notes film version of a lot of what we already knew about the story. It hit all the main points, but the way it was presented totally makes it worth watching. This is high quality filmmaking. The story of NASA’s adventurous mission to the moon was wrapped up in the dramatic story of Neil Armstrong’s family life and what it was like for him and his family to go through this world changing experience.

I would have personally liked to see more character development of some of the other minor astronaut characters in the story that I found interesting. Another thing that I would have liked to see that the movie completely skipped out on was what it was like to see the space shuttle modular return to earth. I would have loved to see Chazelle’s vision of that brought to life. I would have also liked to see his vision of how the lunar module reattached to the shuttle modular after the moon landing, but they skipped that as well. Those things may not be pertinent to the story, but that’s just some additional exciting stuff that interests me that I felt was missing.

As far as the acting goes, Ryan Gosling gave an incredible performance as Armstrong along with Claire Foy as his wife Janet. You can tell the movie was build around them and getting them Oscar nominations. Any you know what? They’ll probably get them!

Some of the other main players include Jason Clarke, Ethan Embry, Kyle Chandler, Corey Stoll, Patrick Fugit, Lukas Haas, Pablo Schreiber, Christopher Abbott, and more. They were all wonderful in the film.

If you see this film, you have to try to see it in IMAX to experience it in all it’s awesome glory. This is one of those movies that needs to be seen on the big screen. If you don’t, you’re missing out on a quite an amazing cinematic movie going experience.

Will Smith Shares The First Poster For Disney’s Live-Action ALADDIN

Will Smith has shared the first poster art for Disney’ live-action adaptation of Aladdin. Like the teaser poster for the original animated film, that I also included, it puts the main focus on the genie’s lamp. It also comes with the tagline, “Choose Wisely” and a note from Smith saying, “Can’t wait for y’all to see Me BLUE!”

Smith plays the Genie in the film and he is joined by Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Power Rangers star Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Numan Acar (Homeland) as Hakim, the head of the guards and Jafar’s right-hand man, and Marwan Kenzari as the villain Jafar. In addition, the live-action movie features new characters created just for the film played by Billy Magnussen (Game Night) and former SNL comedienne Nasim Pedrad.

Guy Ritchie is directing the film from a script written by John August (Big Fish) and Game of Thrones writer Vanessa Taylor.

I saw some early footage from the film earlier this year. I liked what I saw and you can read about it here if you want.

Aladdin is currently slated to hit theaters in May 2019.

You’ll Be Able To Train Porgs in a New ILMxLAB STAR WARS Augmented Reality Experience

As much as I enjoyed Star Wars: The Last Jedi, there was one aspect of it that I could have done without… the porgs. I was not a big fan of those silly alien rodent-looking bird creatures.

Now, for some reason, LucasFilm’s ILMxLAB, which is developing lots of Star Wars experiences using VR, AR and other emerging technologies, has just announced a new project called Star Wars: Project Porg. This is an augmented reality experience that will allow people to train porgs.

Star Wars: Project Porg is a “mixed-reality immersive experiment in which you’ll need to gain the trust and affection of your porgs. How? You’ll feed them treats, play with them, and you’ll also teach them how to maneuver real-world environments with care instructions from C-3PO himself.”

Variety has shared a brief description of what they saw of Project Porg at a preview event:

ILMxLAB demonstrated the experience at a press preview event Tuesday, where the lab had added some extra AR easter eggs for L.E.A.P attendees. The living room setup used to demonstrate the app featured a handful of physical objects that could be controlled with the Magic Leap One headset, thanks to AR overlays that explained their functionality. This allowed attendees to turn on a Sonos speaker, change the program on a TV set and turn on a fan, and then see the porgs react to each of these devices — a nap in front of the TV included.

I think this whole thing sounds ridiculous, but I’m sure there are some fans out there that will enjoy it. I’m sure they’re mostly kids.

Project Porg will be available in December and will be available to mess around on with the AR headset the Magic Leap One.

What do you think about this this porg training AR experience?

THE DRESDEN FILES May Get Another TV Series

Back in 2007, Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files was adapted into a series which aired 12 episodes in one season. It didn’t get a second season. Now, it looks like there may be a second chance for a TV adaptation of the book series. Deadline reports that the rights to The Dresden Files have been optioned for series development by Fox 21. Ileen Maisel is set to produce the project for Temple Hill Entertainment with John Fischer and Julie Waters overseeing it.

The books follow private investigator and wizard Harry Dresden, as he recounts investigations into supernatural disturbances in modern-day Chicago. In the world of The Dresden Files, magic is real, along with vampires, demons, spirits, faeries, werewolves, outsiders, and other monsters. Harry Dresden works as the world’s only “consulting wizard”, accepting supernatural cases from both human and nonhuman clients, as well as the Chicago PD’s Special Investigation unit. As the series progresses, Dresden takes on an increasingly important role in the supernatural world at large, as he works to protect the general public, making getting by as a working wizard and private investigator difficult for him. He finds himself facing off against an increasing variety of creatures (including other wizards), while facing the realization that his various cases may all be tied together behind the scenes and that his role might be even greater than he is willing to admit.

The premise is a strong one and is very promising for an adaptation. In addition to the failed show from 2007, the series has been expanded with short stories, comics, and even a role-playing game. The one catch is that fans are being warned by Butcher himself to not believe everything they read.

Of course, there could be something else that Butcher is referring to, although not likely. It could also mean that the books won’t get straight adaptations, but rather the world will be used for a new story via TV. At first glance though, it does look like Butcher is saying this is a lie and not going to happen at all. What are your thoughts?
