Dwayne Johnson to Star in a Netflix Film Called JOHN HENRY AND THE STATESMEN

Another week, another film that Dwayne Johnson signs on to star in. Dwayne Johnson is a non-stop freight train who makes one big movie after another.

Netflix has just secured the right to an original film pitch from writer Tom Wheeler (The Lego Ninjago Movie) currently entitled John Henry and The Statesmen. The film will be directed by Jake Kasdan with Dwayne Johnson set to star. The two talents previously worked together on Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

Johnson will take on the role of John Henry who is one of the most popular figures from folklore and legend from all around the world. For those of you not familiar with John Henry, here’s a little background info:

John Henry is an African American folk hero. He is said to have worked as a "steel-driving man"—a man tasked with hammering a steel drill into rock to make holes for explosives to blast the rock in constructing a railroad tunnel. According to legend, John Henry's prowess as a steel-driver was measured in a race against a steam-powered rock drilling machine, a race that he won only to die in victory with hammer in hand as his heart gave out from stress. The story of John Henry is told in a classic folk song, which exists in many versions, and has been the subject of numerous stories, plays, books, and novels. Various locations, including Big Bend Tunnel in West Virginia, Lewis Tunnel in Virginia, and Coosa Mountain Tunnel in Alabama, have been suggested as the site of the contest.

This is easily a perfect role for Johnson to take on, especially with his muscular Physique. Johnson had this to say in a statement:

“Netflix is the perfect partner and platform for us to continue entertaining our global audience in a disruptive way. These diverse characters speak to a legacy of storytelling that is more relevant than ever and span across a worldwide audience regardless of age, gender, race or geography.”

Producer Dany Garcia said:

“We have been committed to an international storytelling model for more than a decade. Our partnership with Netflix is giving us an incredible opportunity to reach a broad and diverse audience in the most accessible and intimate manner. We are absolutely thrilled with the opportunity.”

Scott Stuber, head of Netflix’s film group, added:

“Dwayne is a global superstar, inarguably one of the most popular actors in the world. He and Jake are a tremendous duo with a proven track record of entertaining audiences worldwide. We’re delighted to be able to partner with them and collaborate with Seven Bucks Productions and FPC. This is a story with universal appeal and we can’t wait to bring these characters to families around the globe.”

Hiram Garcia then added the following statement:

“Developing an expansive universe of characters that present a needle-moving premise while entertaining our domestic and international audiences, is priority for Seven Bucks Productions. Tom’s brilliant concept aligned perfectly with our company’s creative sensibilities. We are ecstatic to develop this shared universe populated by a vast library of American and international folk heroes. The possibilities are limitless.”

The movie is also said to bring together an ensemble cast of actors. With Johnson on boar, I’m sure he’ll surround himself with some of the best talent working in Hollywood.

Fresh Details Revealed for New BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Comic Series

A few weeks ago, we learned that the comic book rights of Buffy the Vampire Slayer were acquired by BOOM! Studios. We weren’t given any real details other than a teaser poster that showed Buffy with a smartphone. This has led to speculation that the vampire slayer would get the reboot treatment via comics. If you thought that’s what was happening, you have earned yourself a prize. It’s just like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Same characters, but with an updated setting. This worked really well for Power Rangers in my opinion, so I don’t think Buffy fans have much to fear.

This is the Buffy Summers you know, who wants what every average teenager wants: friends at her new school, decent grades, and to escape her imposed destiny as the next in a long line of vampire slayers tasked with defeating the forces of evil. But the Slayer’s world looks a lot more like the one outside your window, as this new series brings her into a new era with new challenges, new friends…and a few enemies you might already recognize. The more things change, the more they stay the same, as the Gang – Giles, Willow, Xander, Cordelia and more – faces brand new Big Bads, and a threat lurking beneath the perfectly manicured exterior of Sunnydale High, confirming what every teenager has always known: high school truly is hell.

In addition to the synopsis, we finally know who will bring the comics to life as well. Jordie Bellaire will be writing the stories and Dan Mora will be providing the art. Joss Whedon will be a story consultant. Bellaire released the following statement to express her excitement:

Buffy has brought my life so much joy and to be part of that now is ridiculously overwhelming on many levels. My very favorite aspect of Buffy is how we have a wide group of characters that love each other, hurt each other and sometimes, they even kill each other. I can’t wait to dabble within that universe to find new stories, explore older ones and forever maintain the theme of self-discovery and growing up, whatever that means.

Mora also released a statement:

It’s an exciting opportunity to be part of reimagining and redesigning the world of Buffy for a modern era while also honoring its exciting history. The series offers a unique mix of horror, action and the experience of being a teenager where it feels like the world is ending – and in this case, it might!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 will be available January 9, 2019.

The Outtakes For RICK AND MORTY’s “Pickle Rick” Scene Are Great

If you think Rick and Morty is hilarious in the final cut, imagine all the laughs that happen behind the scenes! You’ll get a taste of what that’s like with Justin Roiland, who can’t deliver his line in “Pickle Rick,” due to how ridiculous the scene in question is. Personally, I love how Roiland can switch from Rick to his normal voice on a dime, which makes his laughter between takes even funnier. Check out the outtake scene below, and let us know if you’re psyched for more episodes!

THE DRAGON PRINCE Gets Renewed For a Second Season

I’m still making my way through The Dragon Prince, but it must’ve done quite well considering Netflix has renewed it for a second season. My main hope is that the animation becomes more consistent. Most of the time I was able to ignore the inconsistent animation, but there were times where it bugged me. Sometimes it’s smooth and nice and other times it feels really choppy.

Series co-creator, Aaron Ehasz sent out this tweet a few days ago that hinted at this announcement.

Netflix then made the announcement official a few minutes later with this official tweet.

No specific release date has been given outside of 2019. Are you excited for the second season? What do you think will happen?

RESIDENT EVIL 2 REMAKE Deluxe Edition Includes Elza Walker’s Costume

re2-remake (1).jpg

If you’re a long-time fan of the Resident Evil franchise, then you might have an idea who Elza Walker is. However, for those who are unfamiliar, Elza Walker is the scrapped protagonist of the first version of the original Resident Evil 2 alongside Leon Kennedy, that has been called Resident Evil 1.5.

As the release date of Resident Evil 2 Remake gets nearer, Capcom has released details on the game’s Deluxe Edition that will finally allow players to see Elza Walker in action, well—sort of. The Deluxe Edition will include five character skins, a special weapon, reversible box arts, and the ability to swap the game’s soundtrack with the music from the original game.

First off is Claire Redfield’s Elza Walker costume, which is based on the original version of Resident Evil 2 that didn’t make the cut. Elza is a motorcyclist student attending Raccoon University but was later replaced with Claire Redfield, to give the character a link to the first game. Moreover, Claire is also given two additional costumes such as military and noir-themed outfits.

Leon, on the other hand, will sport two additional costumes, which will also include a noir-inspired outfit, and a traditional “Arklay Sherrif” costume. The Deluxe Edition will be priced at $69.99, which is $10 cheaper than the Standard Version. A Collector’s Edition is also available for $199.99.

Resident Evil 2 Remake is only a few months away and will be released on January 25, 2019, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

New Motion Poster For GLASS Features Bruce Willis as David Dunn

We’ve got a new motion poster to share with you for M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass. This one posts the spotlight on Bruce Willis in the role of David Dunn. These motion posters are being released in anticipation of a new trailer for the film coming on Thursday. The poster released yesterday featured James McAvoy as The Beast, and tomorrow we’ll get one for Samuel L. Jackson’s Mr. Glass.

The film also stars Anya Taylor Joy as Casey, Sarah Paulson as Doctor Ellie Staple who plays a vital role in the story as she is treating the main characters in a mental institute.

Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.

During a previous interview, the director opened up a little bit about the film's story and explains that there's a philosophical conflict at the heart of the film that will set it apart from Unbreakable and Glass.

"I think there’s definitely a philosophical conflict at the center of the movie which is, you know, are they are they deluded to think these things? Or is that belief in oneself ultimately something that truly makes them something more?

"That kind of belief is a tenuous thing for people. Even if we can do extraordinary things, is it something that we’re interpreting when we do that or are some people really special or not? The movie’s really about doubt versus belief and so every scene has that weight to it and that struggle is there."

He went on to say that the film is a character-driven story that was inspired by the classic film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

"It’s a contained, character-driven thriller that happens to be about this subject. There’s very little CGI and it’s not about the spectacle. It’s really about the characters. One of my favorite films is One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and there’s a lot of that in this in this movie."

Glass will be released on January 18th, 2019.

James Gunn Will Write and Possibly Direct SUICIDE SQUAD 2 For DC!

Marvel’s loss is DC’s gain! Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has been hired by Warner Bros. to write and possibly direct Suicide Squad 2 for DC Entertainment!

This is awesome news! It means that the next Suicide Squad film is probably going to be freakin’ incredible! I liked the first film more than most people, but with Gunn on board to develop the story and badass characters for the sequel, you can bet that it’s going to be something special.

As much as I love Marvel Studios and what they’ve done, it would be so cool if James Gunn ended up playing a big role in shaping the future of the DC Cinematic Universe and give Marvel a real run for their money.

I’m a huge fan of James Gunn and it’s a shame that Disney fired him from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. But, it’s great to see that he will be working on Suicide Squad 2! This is going to be a great project for him.

What do you all think about James Gunn’s first gig since being fired by Disney?

New Photo of Sly Stallone in RAMBO 5: LAST BLOOD and Paz Vega Joins The Cast

Sylvester Stallone has released another photo of himself while shooting Rambo 5 and THR has revealed that the title of the film will be Rambo 5: Last Blood! That’s certainly an appropriate title!

It was also announced that Paz Vega has joined the cast of the film. She will play Carmen Delgado, “a reporter who covers the Mexican drug trade and teams up with Rambo after her younger half-sister is kidnapped.” She and a few other girls are thrust into a sex trafficking ring. Rambo is trying to settle down to a quiet peaceful life stateside at the family ranch in Arizona after spending decades abroad. But this is going to pull him back into action one final time.

I hope that they don’t kill off Rambo in the film! But, maybe he will only find peace and relaxation when he’s dead.

The film is being directed by Adrian Grunberg from a script written by Matt Cirulnick and Stallone.

George Romero’s Wife Reveals Dozens Of Scripts The Filmmaker Left Behind

Legendary director George Romero may be gone, but his work still has a chance to continue on according to his wife. Suzanne Desrocher-Romero told Comicbook the director left behind a ton of scripts, some of which are being re-worked right now:

George was a prolific writer. He loved to write, and we have 40, 50 scripts that he's written, and a lot of it is very good. He had a lot to say, and he still does, because I'm gonna make sure that he does. It's my mission.

Desrocher-Romero said that’s not all she has to share with the world, however, as she also revealed there’s a film the director did in the early 70s she’d like to share as well:

We have a film that he shot in 1973 that most people haven't seen. A handful of people have seen this film. We're gonna restore it, and we're gonna show it to Romero cinephiles. It's a scary movie, but it's not a horror movie, and it's about ageism. Anyway, he has a cameo in it, and it'll be fun. And we'll show the movie, or get it distributed. It'll be a project that the foundation's gonna do. I think it's the first project we're gonna do actually.

That’s some exciting news for horror fans, and I’m curious to see what all Romero wrote that he never got around to bringing to the big screen. Are you excited to find out as well, or do you think there’s a reason all these scripts haven’t seen the light of day?
