Intense Deleted Scene From BLACK PANTHER Features Okoye and W’Kabi Arguing Over The Wakanda Leadership

The first deleted scene from Marvel's Black Panther has been released by director Ryan Coogler and it's a pretty intense one that features some powerful performances by Danai Gurira and Daniel Kaluuya.

The scene involves Okoye, the leader of the Dora Milaje, and her husband W'Kabi, leader of the border tribe of Wakanda as they disagree over who they support as the leader Wakanda after Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) beat T'Chala (Chadwick Boseman) in the battle for leadership and where Wakanda would go after his death. It's explained by USA Today:

Okoya, who heads the all-female fighting force the Dora Milaje, is mad at W’Kabi after he helped Killmonger gain entry into the Tribal Council room, but W’Kabi is equally furious that his friend T’Challa (who ends up being OK) had promised and failed to bring vibranium thief Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis) to justice. Instead, Killmonger brought Klaue's dead body, as well as a plan to arm the oppressed all over the world and make Wakanda — long pretending to be a third-world country to protect their vast technological resources from the rest of the globe — a true superpower.

Coogler loves the scene but explains that they had to cut because it didn't work inside the confines of the film. When talking about it with Empire, producer Nate Moore said:

"Unfortunately, it occurred at a point in the movie where audiences just wanted to get to the resolution and so it slowed down a part of the movie and we were afraid audiences were checking out. We were also afraid if we took it out we’re going to ruin this movie—‘guys we’re going to ruin this movie; let’s not take it out.’ We didn’t take it out for three or four screenings and we finally took it out and I think Ryan and I were probably the last men on that beach saying don’t take it out."

Watch the clip below and Black Panther will be released digitally on May 8th and on Blu-ray and DVD on May 15th.

This Weekend Marks The Most Stacked Smash Summit Yet

Smash Summits are a national treasure. Since the first one in late 2015, they’ve been some of the most widely-viewed and lucrative events in the scene, and every time a new Summit is announced, the community waits with bated breath to see which lucky players will be invited or voted into the prestigious invitational. And thanks to an exciting line-up and innovative changes to its pool system, this coming weekend’s Smash Summit 6 might just be the best one yet.

It’s certainly the most stacked Summit of all time. With the exception of 100th-ranked Toussaint “2saint” Turnier, every player entering Melee singles at Smash Summit 6 is ranked within the SSBMRank 2017 top 50. Even 2saint is underrated; wins this year over top players such as Michael “MikeHaze” Pulido and Joey “Lucky” Aldama mean that he’s all-but-guaranteed a higher berth in next year’s SSBMRank.

While the concentration of talent is high at this spring’s Smash Summit, the list of potential winners has only grown by one since Smash Summit 5. As the defending champion, Juan “Hungrybox” Debiedma is the favorite to win a Smash Summit for the first time, having won every tournament that he’s entered this year but GENESIS 5. In fact, the No. 1-ranked Floridian has lost only three serious sets in all of 2018.

All of them were to his fast-improving former teammate, Justin “Plup” McGrath. After winning the year’s first major at GENESIS, Plup has spent the rest of the season as a thorn in Hungrybox’s side, coming in second place behind the Jigglypuff main at both Enthusiast Gaming Live Expo 2018 and Noods Noods Noods: Oakland Edition (where he 3-0ed Hungrybox in Winner’s Finals). It’s clear that Plup is more than capable of winning another supermajor-level event over Hungrybox and the rest of the field—but unclear if he be playing in top form at Smash Summit 6.

The rest of Melee’s “gods” have kept a relatively low profile this year, particularly Adam “Armada” Lindgren, who hasn’t entered a single tournament since GENESIS 5. However, it’s only been a few months since Armada was the SSBMRank No. 1, and many await his return to top form at Smash Summit 6.

Similarly, the former No. 1 Joseph “Mang0” Marquez has only entered on tournament seriously since January, the Indiana major Full Bloom 4, where he finished second behind Hungrybox. However, a set win on William “Leffen” Hjelte and a competitive-looking Grand Finals set against Hungrybox showed some promise in the dual Fox/Falco main’s play.

As for Leffen, a 3-0 victory over Mang0 in winner’s bracket of Full Bloom 3 is the only real highlight of his post-GENESIS year. In March, he announced that he would be focusing on his Dragon Ball FighterZ play until the Summit of Power, Beyond the Summit’s mid-June invitational event for the anime-inspired fighting game. Only a few weeks later, he showed signs of rust at Colorado’s Flatiron 3, nearly losing the entire tournament to Jeffrey “Axe” Williamson during a grueling ten-game Grand Finals.

Mew2King’s year has been the least distinguished of the top 6, with no wins on his fellow gods and subpar placements at the events that he has attended. However, the veteran Marth/Sheik has shown time and time again that he is never one to be counted out.

It’s unlikely that any challenger from the rest of the field will be able to win the event, but each and every player entering Smash Summit 6 has the capability to upset higher-ranked competitors; a good number of them can boast of their own elite-level wins at length. While singles is the central event of the invitational, it will also be exciting to see how contenders such as Hugo “HugS” Gonzalez and Edgard “n0ne” Sheleby perform in the other events, such as the event’s doubles bracket or crew battle tournament.

If you want to catch all the action, stay glued to Beyond the Summit’s Twitch channel—they’ll be streaming top-level play (and top-level players’ shenanigans) all weekend.

Joss Whedon Fought For Sole Writing Credit on His AVENGERS Script and He Almost Introduced The Wasp

joss-whedon-fought-for-sole-writing-credit-on-his-avengers-script-and-he-almost-introduced-the-wasp-social.jpg

Joss Whedon played a huge role in bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe together with The Avengers. He could have had a long career with Marvel Studios but it seems like his experience on Age of Ultron may have soured his experience. Regardless, he did some great things with the MCU and I hope that one day he comes back for another project.

During a recent interview with Thrillist, Whedon opened up about the script that he wrote and how he fought and lost getting sole writting credit on the film. He had to sahre the credit with Zak Penn even though Whedon wrote the script by himself. Whedon also revealed that he almost included The Wasp in the film. Here's what he had to say about writing the script:

"I started at square 1 on the script. I mean, straight up. I don’t wanna rag on it, but I fought that credit. I was very upset about it. I know how the Guild works, first guy on a movie and all that, but I’ve never had good luck with arbitrations…I read [Penn’s script] one time, and I’ve never seen it since. I was like, ‘Nope. There’s nothing here.’ There was no character connection. There was a line in the stage directions that said, apropos of nothing, ‘And then they all walk towards the camera in slow motion because you have to have that.’ Yeah, well, no: You have to earn that."

Whedon obviously wasn't a fan of the original script so he had to start from scratch. In the end he ended up delivering and awesome Avengers movie! But, doe to the rules of the writers guild he wasn't able to get a sole writting credit on the film.

He then goes on to talk about how he almost included The Wasp in The Avengers movie! Not only that, but she would have played a big role in the story. The reason for this was because there was a chance at the time that Scarlett Johansson wouldn't have been avilable to play Black Widow in the movie, and Whedon wanted to make sure there was a feamle character. So, Whedon wrote Wasp into the script to replace Black Widow. He also mentions that he almost added another villain because he wasn't sure if Loki would be a big enough threat.

"I wrote a huge bunch of pages starring The Wasp. That was not useful. I also worried that one British character actor was not enough to take on Earth’s mightiest heroes, and that we’d feel like we were rooting for the overdog. So I wrote a huge draft with Ezekiel Stane, Obadiah Stane’s son, in it."

In the end, even though The Wasp or Ezekiel Stane weren't used, the movie still turned out great! However, it would have been fun to see what he would have done with The Wasp. Regardless, The Wasp will be kicking ass in the upcoming film Ant-Man and The Wasp, which looks amazingly fun!

With Whedon both out at Marvel and DC, I wonder what film project he'll end up directing next.

Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o and Marion Cotillard To Star in The Spy Thriller 355

I enjoy a good spy thriller, and there a new one going into development with a crazy talented all-star female cast called 355. The movie will star Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Marion Cotillard, Fan Bingbing, and Penelope Cruz.

The movie will be directed by Simon Kinberg, who is currently working on X-Men: Dark Pheonix, which Chastain also stars in. Kinberg is also the screenwriter of projects such as Star Wars Rebels, Sherlock Homes, and X-Men: Apocalypse. He didn't write the script for this movie, though. That script comes from Theresa Rebeck, which was based on an original idea by Chastain.

The story sees the five women banding together, overcoming their suspicions and conflicts, to use all their considerable talents and training to stop a global organization from acquiring a weapon that could thrust the teetering world into total chaos. Along the way, these strangers and enemies become comrades and friends, and a new faction is formed – code-named “355” (a name they adopt from the first female spy in the American Revolution).

I love that this team of talent is coming together for an original spy thriller like this! I like the concept and it could end up being a great movie! Chastain had this to say about it in a statement:

"Some of my greatest experiences are being part of an ensemble, both on stage as well as in films. I see creating something like ‘355’ as an opportunity and privilege to assemble a diverse group of women, all of whom have greatly influenced the film industry through their work, to join together equally and explore the badass world of international espionage and thrillers.
"I have always loved films in this genre: ‘Three Days of the Condor,’ the Jason Bourne franchise to the Bond films, and having the opportunity to create this world with these stellar actresses and Simon Kinberg is truly a dream."

Does this sound like a film project that you'd be interested in watching?

Trailer For LEAVE NO TRACE – A Survival Story From The Director of WINTER’S BONE and Ben Foster

It's been eight years since director Debra Granik made Winter's Bone and introduced the world to Jennifer Lawrence. That was an incredible film and Lawrence's career exploded after it was released. The director has finally made another movie. I'm not sure why it took so long, but it's called Leave No Trace and it's another survival story that stars Ben Foster and newcomer Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie. This looks like a solid follow-up to Winter's Bone and here's the synopsis:

Will (Ben Foster) and his teenage daughter, Tom (Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie), have lived off the grid for years in the forests of Portland, Oregon. When their idyllic life is shattered, both are put into social services. After clashing with their new surroundings, Will and Tom set off on a harrowing journey back to their wild homeland.

Leave No Trace opens in limited theaters on June 29, 2018.

LOST’s Josh Holloway Was Originally Cast as Gambit in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE

A lot of fans thought that former Lost and Colony star Josh Holloway would make for a great Gambit. It turns out that at one point he almost actually played the character in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine! While talking to Digital Spy, Holloway reveals that he was actually cast as Remy LeBeau before some executive at Fox decided they wanted to go with a younger actor and they ultimately replaced him with Taylor Kitsch.

"I actually screen-tested with Hugh Jackman. It was amazing – they said, ‘You’re it, you’re the guy, you’re Gambit!’ and they shook my hand. Then [the studio head] said, ‘I want someone really young, like that kid in High School Musical!’, so there I went."

It's crazy how something like that could change so quickly. Holloway would have been great as Gambit, but ultimately it might have been better for him not to be in that movie. The actor did admit that there was one aspect of the character that he had a problem with... the accent:

"I’m terrible at the Cajun accent. I wish I could [do it]."

As you know, Channing Tatum has been trying to get a solo Gambit film off the ground for years. That movie is scheduled to start shooting this summer and the studio is hoping to finally release it in June 2019.

Would you have liked to see Holloway play Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine?

Benedict Cumberbatch Said He Had To Pound Coffee And Skittles For His DOCTOR STRANGE Scene

Every so often a celebrity will say something in an interview that will wake people up to the reality that acting isn't as fun as it always seems to be. This is one of those stories. Benedict Cumberbatch had one shirtless scene in Marvel's Doctor Strange, and you would not believe the amount of working out and self-sacrifice he had to go through for a scene that was, to be quite frank, unforgettable. Listen to Cumberbatch talk about the grueling process, which involves chugging coffee and eating lots of skittles, below:

New Set Video from TITANS Features Robin and Maybe Wonder Girl

It’s been a while since I heard anything about DC’s upcoming show Titans. However, someone recently took a video on set that gives us a 10-second glimpse at Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson and Conor Leslie whose role is undisclosed, but many fans are guessing she will play Donna Troy/Wonder Girl. I still can’t wait for this show. I hope it kicks butt! It is important to note that the actors walked off after noticing that they were being filmed by someone other than their film crew. Someone took their smoke break at the right time. Are you excited?

Titans is set to premiere on DC's upcoming streaming platform later this year.

"Oh I missed you boy wonder" - #titansdc filming exactly where @richmanalina and I have our smoke breaks. The actor stormed off a few seconds after this because he noticed us taking vids ? #dccomics #teentitans @comicstorian @comicsexplained
