Earlier this week it was reported that The Penguin may end up being the main villain in director Matt Reeves' The Batman. This isn't set in stone or anything, but of course, fans have been talking about who they would like to see in the role.
Josh Gad has messed around in the past about taking on the role of The Penguin, and a lot of fans seemed to like the idea of the possibility of Gad in the role. But now another actor is starting to make the rounds as a favorite to play the character and that actor is Nick Frost who you know from films such as Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
It's really not that hard to imagine Frost in the role of Oswald Cobblepot. In fact, Frost himself loves the idea! When it was brought to his attention on Twitter, he enthusiastically said that he's in!
If Matt Reeves does end up using The Penguin as the main villain in the film, we have no idea who he'll cast, but I imagine he would cast a solid actor in the role. Nick Frost could work if the director goes with a comic book version of the character. However, there's always the chance that Reeves could go with a different version that fits his vision for the world he's building.
As we've previously reported, Reeves is looking to do a dark noir-style film that will focus on the detective side of the Dark Knight.
Do you like the idea of Nick Frost taking on the role? If not, what other actors would you like to possibly see bring the characters to life?
There's a new film about the legendary Zodiac Killer being developed called The Most Dangerous Animal of All. It's based on the The New York Times bestselling book of the same name written by Gary L. Stewart, who claims that his dad, Earl Van Best. Jr., was the Zodiac Killer.
The rights to the book were acquired by Ross Dinerstein and Campfire Entertainment. The plan is to make a documentary first and then they will follow that up with a feature film. The title of the book comes from the 1932 movie The Most Dangerous Game which law enforcement for years has said could have inspired the Zodiac killer.
There have been multiple films made about the Zodiac Killer over the years. My favorite is David Fincher's 2007 film Zodiac, which is one of my favorite movies of all time. I've been fascinated with the Zodiac Killer for a long time. The fact that he was never caught or identified is a major part of the lore that interests people. There have been many theories over the years on who the Zodiac killer could have been.
If you're not familiar with Stewart's story and why he thinks his dad is the Zodiac, here's a rundown from Deadline:
So what is Stewart’s story? He was abandoned in a Baton Rouge stairwell as an infant with only a dirty rag wrapped around him. Thirty-nine years later, Gary (now 55), began his search for his biological parents, revealing a tumultuous affair filled with police records and newspaper articles outlining stories of statutory rape, disturbing connections to satanic cults, and domestic violence.
In May 2013, Gary was finally face-to-face with his biological mother. Three years later, Gary still had one question that had been gnawing at him since the day they met: Who was his father? This missing piece to his biological puzzle led Gary down a 12-year long journey that yielded a result no one would expect: the drawing of the face of the notorious Zodiac killer (as seen by the only victim the survived his attack) is eerily similar — actually almost identical — to the face of his father, Earl Van Best. Jr.
Van Best was also a known suspect in a case that has never been solved. The Zodiac killer claimed to have killed 37 people either by stabbing or shooting. Only one of the victims of the seven murders confirmed directly to the Zodiac killer would survive his attacks. However, there were questions about several others that were not conclusively linked to the serial killer.
Since there was only partial DNA and a partial print collected from the crime scenes, no one has been able to conclusively link anyone directly as the Zodiac killer. The SFPD still has that evidence.
This is certainly going to make for an intriguing documentary and film. The doc will include interviews with Stewart and co-author Susan Mustafa, and will lay out the evidence he compiled. It will be directed by Academy Award-nominated director Keif Davidson (Open Heart, The Ivory Game,Bending the Arc, A Lego Brickumentary and The Devil’s Miner).
Does the mystery behind the Zodiac Killer interest you? If so, and you've dove in and done a little research, who do you think it was?
Bleach is in the news a lot lately for its live-action movie, but it’s not the only one getting live-action adaptations. Everyone’s favorite ninja, Naruto, is coming to life as well. Naruto has been adapted into a kabuki play. With how bold and over-the-top the medium has a history of being, it sounds pretty perfect for Naruto which, like a lot of other anime, goes over-the-top fast with all of the stunts the ninjas perform. Sadly, we don’t know anything about the story being told in the kabuki play, but we have recently gotten a teaser to show us some of the costuming and it looks perfect. We get to see Minosuke Bandou dressed as Naruto and Hayato Nakaruma in Sasuke’s clothes. The show will premiere in August in Tokyo at Shinbashi Enbujo Theatre. If you were able to go see it, would you?
A video from the set of Marvel's The Punisher Season 2 has surfaced and it's actually pretty intense. It features our first look yet at actor Ben Barnes in the role of the villain Billy Russo a.k.a. Jigsaw. As you will see, he goes a little ballistic and starts shooting at Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle and there's also footage of Castle shooting back at him.
In case you don't remember, Castle brutally cut up Russo's face up in the final episode of the first season. He obviously went through some reconstructive surgery, but it's more of a real-world outcome than the look of the over-the-top version of the character from the comic book. Watch the video below and if you have any thoughts on the footage, you know where to talk about it!
We don't have any solid confirmation of the story that Season 2 will tell, but we've heard rumors that it might adapt Garth Ennis' The Slavers story arc. If you're not familiar with that story, here is a rundown:
The Punisher is about to murder a gangster when woman opens fire on him wounding him. The Woman is forced to retreat into an alley that turns out to be a dead end. The Punisher kills the gangster he was their to murder and follows the woman and the men chasing her into the alley. Frank Castle kills the men and is about to leave when the woman begging for his help screams they killed her baby. Frank takes her back to his base where she passed out following him and listens to her story. The woman named Viorica tells Frank that she was forced into prostitution and kept by slavers living in New York City and that after she escaped they tried to track her down and murdered her child. The Punisher then turns all of his attention to the forced prostitution ring and sets out to destroy it.
As for the cast, Josh Stewart will be taking on the role of John Pilgrim, "a man whose calm exterior belies a ruthless interior. Despite having left behind a life of violence, circumstances will force him to use his old skills and bring him into Frank Castle’s world." Floriana Lima will play Krista Dumont, "a smart, compassionate, and driven psychotherapist for military veterans." Giorgia Whigham will play Amy Bendix, "a street-smart grifter with a mysterious past."
Then there's Corbin Bernsen who is set to play Anderson Schultz, "an extremely wealthy man who’s grown accustomed to getting his way. His power and legacy are of prime importance, and he’ll implement less-than-legal means to further those ends." Annette O’Toole will be taking on the role of the conniving Eliza Schultz, "Anderson’s equally manipulative wife."
Amber Rose Revah and Jason R. Moore are also set to return to the series.
It's not often a game is made specifically to let players play as the bad guy, or at least they aren't up front about it. When it comes to being evil in a game, many players look forward to causing mayhem and destruction.
Lego is giving players the chance to not only be the bad guy, but to be a part of some of the most popular Villians from our favorite comic book series in their latest title DC Super Villians. While the trailer features enemies like The Joker and Reverse Flash, it showed that we will be able to customize our character with different outfits and powers. It even includes the launch date for the PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One set on October 16, 2018. Check it out:
The Lego DC Super Villians game is available for pre-order and will include both the season pass and the TV Series Character pack. Even if you choose to just get the game when it comes out, I'm interested to see what the story line will be that you will follow and what kind of powers we will be able to pick from.
It's going to be nice to not have to save the day for once or even go through the game thinking I'm doing good. Going on with the mind for chaos will be a great change of pace. What power are you most interested in having?
Keanu Reeves and Daniel Dae Kim have jumped on board a new Netflix comedy in production called Always Be My Maybe. The film is currently in production and the actors will join the previously cast Ali Wong and Randall Park. It's a rare thing to see Reeves do comedy, but it's always fun to see him take on a comedic role. I have no idea what to expect from him in this film, but I hope it's good!
The story follows childhood sweethearts "who have a falling out and don’t speak for 15 years. They reconnect as adults when Sasha, now a celebrity chef opening a restaurant in San Francisco, runs into Marcus, a happily struggling musician still living at home working for his dad."
Nahnatchka Khan is directing the film from a script by Wong, Park, and Michael Golamco. The cast also includes Michelle Buteau, Vivian Bang, Karan Soni (Deadpool 2), Charlyne Yi (Paper Heart), James Saito, Lyrics Born, and Susan Park (Vice Principals).
Netflix will debut the film in 2019. Reeves is currently shooting John Wick: Chapter 3 and Kim is set to appear in the Lionsgate Hellboy reboot.
Kevin Smith has left Clerks 3 on the back burner for quite a while, and now fans are finally learning why. Smith announced the film wasn't happening for the foreseeable future, but that's mostly because one of the film's four main actors isn't willing to return at the moment (via Slashfilm)
“One of the four main characters did not want to be involved. It quickly spiraled out of control in a big, bad way, and wound up not happening and probably could never happen after the stream of events that hit a wall, and sometimes that’s a wall you can’t get over…So, yeah, sadly, that gets put to the side.”
Smith didn't leave folks in suspense too long about who wasn't willing to return, it's Jeff Anderson. Smith said Anderson's role is particularly important for the script this time around, as the film is to be centered around his character:
“I want it so badly but I can’t do it without him, it was written for him. But the Randal part is the whole movie, like it’s Randal’s flick. So unless he changes his mind — if and when he changes his mind, I doubt that’ll happen — then we can kind of move forward. I could never recast it, he is Randal, Jeff Anderson.”
It's definitely good to see Smith is willing to let the franchise die as opposed to recasting the role of Randal. After all, as much as the world would like to see another Clerks film, I don't think any of us need it so badly it needs to move forward without the original cast, right?
Jennifer Garner jumps back into the action genre in a new film called Peppermint. It's been a long time since we've seen Garner kick some ass, and she does a lot of it in this first trailer for the film as she embarks on a mission of revenge and justice. After her husband and daughter are murdered and she is robbed of justice due to a corrupt system, she spends five years training to unleash hell on everyone involved. Here's the synopsis:
Peppermint tells the story of young mother Riley North (Garner, Alias) who awakens from a coma after her husband and daughter are killed in a brutal attack on the family. When the system frustratingly shields the murderers from justice, Riley sets out to transform herself from citizen to urban guerilla. Channeling her frustration into personal motivation, she spends years in hiding honing her mind, body and spirit to become an unstoppable force – eluding the underworld, the LAPD and the FBI- as she methodically delivers her personal brand of justice.
It's great to see Garner in a new action movie! The film is directed by Pierre Morel (Taken, District 13), and it also stars John Ortiz (Kong: Skull Island), John Gallagher, Jr. (10 Cloverfield Lane), Method Man (Keanu), Richard Cabral (Lethal Weapon) and Tyson Ritter (Preacher).
Peppermint is set to be released on September 7th. Are you excited about seeing this one?
A lot of fans were pissed off at Star-Lord in Avengers: Infinity War because of how he handled a certain situation in the film. If you haven't seen the movie yet, you're crazy, and there are spoilers ahead.
I'm sure you all remember when Iron Man, Spider-Man, Mantis, Drax, and Doctor Strange were so close to getting the Infinity Gauntlet off of Thanos. Then all of a sudden a cocky Star-Lord lost his shit when he realized Gamora was dead and started beating Thanos in the head with his gun allowing Thanos to regain control of the situation and beat the hell out of them.
I've seen a lot hate come out against Star-Lord for his actions, but actor Chris Pratt isn't having any of it and wants fans to cut Star-Lord some slack. During a recent interview with Radio Times, while promoting Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Pratt was asked why Star-Lord screwed everything up by attacking Thanos while he was under Mantis’ control. It was a moment of weakness that helped lead Thanos to killing off half the population of the universe. Pratt offered the following explanation:
"Look, the guy watched his mother die. He watched as his father figure died in his arms. He was forced to kill his own biological father. And now has suffered the loss of the love of his life. So I think he reacted in a way that’s very human, and I think the humanity of the Guardians of the Galaxy is what sets them apart from other superheroes. I think if we did it a hundred times I wouldn’t change a [mother-fucking] thing."
Pratt added that this whole thing is something he's very sensitive about. He's wondering why people aren't more pissed off at Thanos! The guy who actually destroyed half the universe. He makes a good point there.
In the end, when Avengers 4 comes out, none of this will matter as I'm sure that most of what Thanos did will be undone somehow. Hell, Dave Bautista is already talking about Drax's return! Then there's the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Remember, Doctor Strange did tell Tony Stark that this was "the only way" for everything to play out in order to save the universe. So, maybe Star-Lord did exactly what he was supposed to do! Don't hate on Star-Lord. After all, he's only half human.
It wasn't long ago that we got an awesome Dragonball FighterZ character reveal trailer for Vegito, but it wasn't until now that Bandai Namco announced when he would be available. Coming out today, May 21st, is the DLC containing Vegito, and he's not alone!
The reveal of a character many have been waiting for, Zamasu, has been shared with the announcement of the latest DLC. They didn't make a trailer specifically for him, but the one they made for the Vegito and Zamasu DLC is nothing short of a tribute to the fusion god character. Check it out:
I love how they had it seem like Zamasu interrupted a regular match to come kick Goku's ass and then showed some of the unique cutscenes that coordinate with his role in the anime. They keep bringing out all these fitting characters, while its kickass I'm still waiting for some silly choices like Roshi.
After seeing them both of the newest fighters attack styles, which fusion choice will it be that makes it on to one of your roster team presets? I'm looking forward to giving Vegito a shot myself, but Zamasu just might be replacing Android 21 for me.
