Marvel Studios has had a very good track record for hiring directors to make their movies. Now it looks like British filmmaker Ben Wheatley actually might be one of them. This is the guy who previously made the films such as Kill List, A Field in England, and Free Fire. Wheatley is definitely an interesting choice and one that I wouldn't have expected. The guy just makes wickedly crazy films!
The news comes from actor and comedian Bob Mortimer while he was a gues ton Adam Buxton's podcast. While he was discussing a project that he is working on with Wheatley, he revealed:
"We were about to start that but then Ben got offered one of the big Marvel films, so it wasn't for us to say 'you ain't doing that Ben'."
That certainly sounds to me like Wheatley is directing a Marvel movie! Marvel obviously hasn't confirmed anything, so we have no idea what movie he'll be directing, but we'll eventually find out.
This is just speculation for now based on what Mortimer said, but if Ben Wheatley is attached to direct a Marvel movie, what movie would you like to see him take on? The director has expressed interest in directing a Marvel Zombies film, but I seriously doubt that's going to happen.
We've got a brand new promo trailer for you to watch for the upcoming insanely disturbing horror film Hereditary. Most of the footage highlights a scene in which we Toni Collette's character descends into complete madness. This is has got to be one the most uncomfortable and terrifying family dinners ever.
I saw this film at Sundance and it was jacked up. Hereditary is a truly frightening horror film that may haunt you days after you watch it. I also have to say that Toni Collette gives an amazing performance and she needs to be nominated for Best Actress! I can't wait to see how audiences react to this movie! You can read my review of the film here.
When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter’s family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. Making his feature debut, writer-director Ari Aster unleashes a nightmare vision of a domestic breakdown that exhibits the craft and precision of a nascent auteur, transforming a familial tragedy into something ominous and deeply disquieting, and pushing the horror movie into chilling new terrain with its shattering portrait of heritage gone to hell.
The film was written and directed by first-time filmmaker Ari Aster and it stars Toni Collette, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Ann Dowd and Gabriel Byrne. Hereditary is getting a theatrical release on June 8, 2018.
Earlier today we shared a new poster for Ant-Man and The Wasp in anticipation of the new trailer being released tomorrow. Now we have a fun Marvel promo to share with you that asks where Ant-Man and The Wasp were during the events of Avengers: Infinity War.
The video features several actors from Infinity War wondering where the two tiny characters could have been. There are no answers given in the promo, it's just a little video that was shared for fun and to get the fans talking.
The events of Ant-Man and The Wasp are set right after the events of Civil War and before the events of Infinity War, but whatever happens in the film will lead into what we will see in Avengers 4 because these two characters will play a big role in it.
I know that they said that Scott Lang was under house arrest in Infinity War, but what do you think he and The Wasp were up too? How do you think the movie will lead into Avengers 4?
Here's the synopsis:
From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink: “Ant-Man and The Wasp.” In the aftermath of “Captain America: Civil War,” Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside The Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from their past.
We've since learned that the mission will focus on going into the quantum realm to save Janet Van Dyne.
Peyton Reed is directingAnt-Man and the Wasp and it stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michael Pena as Luis, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, T.I. as Dave, Randall Park as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Jimmy Woo, and Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, and Hannah John-Kamen as The Ghost.
Ant-Man and The Wasp will be released in theaters on July 6th, 2018.
THR recently interviewed star of Karate Kid and Cobra Kai series, Ralph Macchio, as well as executive producer Jon Hurwitz about their new series and how they planned on including Pat Morita's iconic character Mr. Miyagi. Morita was the teacher and star alongside Macchio in the original trilogy, but sadly passed away in 2005, at the age of 73.
Macchio told THR at the Tuesday Night Premiere of Cobra Kai at New York's Tribeca Film Festival that, "We're not here without Pat Morita's performance in that film. The heart and soul of the Karate Kid universe are the teachings of Mr. Miyagi." He mentions that Mr. Miyagi's name will be used throughout the series, and there will be many reminders of him.
Executive producer, Jon Hurwitz, also went on to explain that they will also be using some footage from the original series that has never been seen before. That is incredibly exciting news! I have been a fan of the Karate Kid movies since I was a kid, and I am really excited for this new installment.
Cobra Kai will be available for streaming on YouTube Red starting May 2nd! Are you guys excited?
It looks like Ant-Man and The Wasp's Michelle Pfeiffer is going to join Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning in Disney Maleficent 2. According to Variety, the actress is in "advanced talks" with the studio. It was also recently announced that Ed Skrein would be playing the villain in the film.
Pfeiffer will take on the role of the queen in the sequel. We don't have any details on her character other than that. As for the story goes, it's being kept under wraps. All that Angelina Jolie has really said about it, is that it will be a "really strong sequel."
The movie is being directed by Joachim Ronning (Kon Tiki, Pirate of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) and even though I wasn't a fan of the first movie, I hope the director does something great with this sequel.
The original film told the story of the "beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent who has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal. An act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well."
Production on the sequel is set to start this year. What do you think about Michelle Pfeiffer joining the film project?
Action-movie director John Woo has made a new action film called Manhunt and as you'll see in this new US trailer, it has a very 90s action movie style to it. I've enjoyed the action films that John Woo has made over the years and this one looks pretty crazy.
Action maestro John Woo returns to the mold of his classic The Killer with this remake of a classic 1970s Japanese thriller, about an innocent man who sets out to clear his name after his is framed for robbery and rape.
The movie will be released on Netflix and I'll definitely be checking it out! It's been awhile since we've seen a John Woo film like this, so I'm kinda excited about it. It's just got that pure Woo-style action-movie vibe. The last American movie he made was Paycheck back in 2003.
Battle Royale games have been the recent trend in multiplayer gaming as of late with several developers big and small, trying to grab a piece of the action. However, we can now cross Microsoft off the list as Xbox boss Phil Spencer said on Twitter that while battle royale is extremely popular, none of Microsoft’s studios will make a game of their own. Well of course, unless they find a unique way to make it.
Millions are playing BR games right now. I don't want to just build one because others have built them. FNBR is massive, PUBG is huge, new BR variants being built by some very quality devs, I'd rather support unless we find something special in 1P that's a different take.
“Millions are playing BR [Battle Royale] games right now. I don’t want to just build one because others have built them. FNBR [Fortnite: Battle Royale] is massive, PUBG is huge, new BR variants being built by some very quality dev, I’d rather support unless we find something special in [first-party] that’s a different take.”
Spencer’s comments suggest that Microsoft, or any of the studios under it, will make a brand new, standalone battle royale game. However, this may mean that existing Microsoft games, like Halo 6, may receive a battle royale mode instead. However, nothing has been set official as of now, so better not to keep our hopes up.
It’s not that surprising that Microsoft is not enthusiastic about creating their own battle royale game given that the company is in an exclusive partnership with PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. This would mean that if Microsoft created their own battle royale game, it would become a direct competitor of PUBG, which might strain the relationship of both developers.
What do you think of Microsoft’s stance on the battle royale genre? Do you think we need more battle royale games? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
I don't care what anyone says, Marvel's upcoming Cloak & Dagger series looks like it will be a great show! In another effort to help sell audiences on the show, Freeform has released a new trailer and it might just be the best one yet. It offers some fantastic new footage and we get to see two main characters see some action as they team up with each other to stop the evil heading that is terrorizing New Orleans. I like these two characters. They have a great dynamic and so far I like what I've seen on how they are being portrayed in this series.
Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger is the story of Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) – two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers which are mysteriously linked to one another. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.
Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger stars Olivia Holt (I Didn’t Do It), Aubrey Joseph (Run All Night), Andrea Roth (Rescue Me, Blue Bloods), Gloria Reuben(ER, Mr. Robot), Miles Mussenden (Bloodline, Queen Sugar), Carl Lundstedt(Grey’s Anatomy, Conviction) James Saito (Life of Pi, The Devil’s Advocate), and J.D. Evermore (True Detective, The Walking Dead).
Joe Pokaski (Underground, Heroes) serves as showrunner and executive producer; Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s The Punisher, Marvel’s The Defenders), Marvel’s head of Television, and Jim Chory (Marvel’s The Punisher, Marvel’s The Defenders) also serve as executive producers.
As Avengers: Infinity War is blowing up in theaters Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is already starting to plan for all the MCU film that will be released through 2025! We have no idea what to expect from this line-up of films, but its said that Marvel will reveal their next phase of films at Comic-Con 2019 after Avengers 4 comes out. When talking to AP News, Feige said:
"We’re always thinking ahead. Just when people think they can pin us down, we go somewhere else and that’s going to happen again after ‘Infinity War’ in the build-up to the next Avengers film. And we had meetings earlier today about 2024 and 2025."
That's seven years of Marvel films that are being planned and I doubt that it is going to stop or slow down after that because they are good at what they do. Marvel will just keep planning and making movies for the fans to enjoy for years to come. Hopefully, some of those films will include the X-Men and Fantastic Four. As of right now, Marvel has several release dates for films through 2022.
In a separate interview with Bustle, the Russo Bros. talked a little bit about the title of Avengers 4, which fans are eagerly awaiting. Especially after the events of Avengers: Infinity War unfolded. There is a title for the movie, but they won't reveal it because it's been said to be a spoiler. When talking about the title the directors said:
"We do have a name for it, we’re just not announcing it … and I think we came to that name fairly early in the development process. It speaks to the heart of the story."
According to the screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, while talking to THR, Avengers 4 will be "better" and "bigger" than anything we just saw in Infinity War. There's a good chance that the event so that movie will be even more devastating than Infinity War.
Yeah, I'm sure that some characters who died in Infinity War will come back, but in the process, there are going to be more characters that die in Avengers 4 who won't come back. In the end, the MCU will drastically be changed, which is what Kevin Feige has been telling us for months.
What Marvel films to you hope to see get made over the next seven years!?
Marvel has released a new poster for Ant-Man and The Wasp and they've announced that a brand new trailer will be released tomorrow. I got to watch the new trailer at CinemaCon last week and it was pretty awesome! You can read about what I say here if you want.
As you can see, the poster gives us our very first look at Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne and she's looking pretty badass! The poster also features our first look at an unmasked Hannah John-Kamen as The Ghost.
