New READY PLAYER ONE Photo Features The Sixers Hunt Down Wade and Samantha

A new image has surfaced online from Steven Spielberg's highly anticipated film adaptation of Ernest Cline's retro sci-fi fantasy novel Ready Player One. The photo was shared by USA Today and it features Samantha Cook (Olivia Cooke) and Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) being hunted down by the villainous Sixers.

When talking about the film, Spielberg describes it as "a cautionary tale but also an exhilarating adventure." He goes on to say that the '80s "had a refreshing lack of cynicism, and in our story, that’s what people are trying to return to. In their real lives, they’re living in a debris field of the first half of the 21st century."

As many of you already know, the story is set in a world where the people escape in a virtual world known as the OASIS, where they live their lives. The story revolves around Wade Watts who is on the hunt for an Easter egg hidden in the OASIS that a lot of people would like to get their hands on. When talking about Wade and his love interest Samantha, Spielberg says:

"You get to know their quirks, (but) you don’t know who the person really is until you meet them in the real world. So there’s always that doubt: Are they telling the truth about themselves?"

This is such an awesome story that includes an explosion of nostalgia. I love this story and I'm so freakin' excited about the movie. It looks like it's going to be an insanely awesome and entertaining cinematic experience that audiences won't want to miss.

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery, and danger..

The film also stars Ben Mendelsohn and T.J. Miller, and Simon Pegg. It's set to be released on March 30, 2018. To watch the most recent trailer again, click here!

New AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Photo and Robert Downey Jr. Says Iron Man and Captain America’s Confrontation Isn’t Over

Thanks to USA Today we have a new photo to share with you for Avengers: Infinity War. It features Rocket Racoon and Mantis looking after Thor who is unconscious after literally running into each other in deep space. We don't know exactly how this all comes about, but I can't wait to see!

There's also a little comment about the film from Robert Downey Jr. in regards to the relationship between Iron Man and Captain America. It seems they are still at odds with each other.

"That’s the hardest for me, because I look at Evans and I just to want to go over and smell him or tell him he looks cool in those sunglasses when he’s walking over to have lunch. And then I’m just staring daggers at him, getting mad. But even that relationship is going to take a turn."

It's interesting to hear that the relationship between these two characters is going to take even more of a turn. I thought that they might bury the hatchet as they are in a position where they have to team up again to fight Thanos and his goons to keep them from destroying the universe, but apparently, their little confrontation with each other isn't done yet.

I would love to eventually see these two characters die while fighting alongside each other in a blaze of glory. Or at least see Captain America sacrifice his life to save Tony Stark. The thought of either of these scenarios playing out kind of makes me emotional.

Look at this Awesome Concept Art for THE FORCE AWAKENS and THE LAST JEDI

sw_concept.jpg

The new Star Wars trilogy has seen a lot of praise as well as a lot of criticism. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was criticized by many for being Star Wars: A New Hope with updated characters. Also, everyone’s favorite smuggler got killed off. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is typically attacked for being very different than how people wanted the story to play out. We now have some fresh concept art for both movies (The Force Awakens art may not be new per se, but it hasn’t been seen before) that show how some scenes and characters evolved while they were being created. If you still haven’t seen The Last Jedi, be warned there’s some spoiler-y stuff in some of the images.

There are two main focuses of the art that I’ve noticed: the death of Han Solo in The Force Awakens and Benicio del Toro’s character, DJ from The Last Jedi. You can see that the death of Han went through a few different iterations, but it’s interesting to note that they all seem to point to him falling after the deed was done. When it comes to DJ, it’s very interesting to see how different he could’ve been with one of his costumes looking semi-Jedi-ish. There’s even concept of Kylo Ren with his mask having more of a gold material instead of the silver around his eye slot. What do you think of the different concept art? Do you prefer any of it to the final product?

George Lucas Admits He “May Have Gone Too Far” After Screening PHANTOM MENACE

George Lucas.jpg

Until recently, most Star Wars fans generally agreed that Episode I: The Phantom Menace is the worst film in the entire saga. And even George Lucas himself was not thrilled after seeing a rough cut of prequel film. Lucas was so bothered by the climax of the film, he admitted to the small screening room he "may have gone too far in a few places."

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has divided fans, but it continues to dominate the box office, THR recently took a look back at a making-of featurette that was included on The Phantom Menace DVDwhich showed Lucas, in part... had a bad feeling about this.

Critics bashed the film which holds a 55% on Rotten Tomatoes, and most fans were also disappointed in the final product. One of the biggest complaints, besides Jar Jar, was the underwhelming climax of the film. The funny thing is that it turns out Lucas and the crew had the very same reaction. But, by the time the time they realized it, it was too late, according to the footage on the DVD special feature.

"It's a little disjointed," Lucas says after the screening ends. "It's bold in terms of jerking people around. I may have gone too far in a few places."

Film editor Ben Burtt adds to Lucas' comments in regards to the pacing and tone of the scenes cut together, which include a lightsaber fight that leads to the death of Qui-Gon Jinn; Queen Amidala and troops escaping; and Jar Jar clumsily blasting battle droids on the ground.

"In a space of about 90 seconds, you go from lamenting the death of a hero to escape to slightly comedic with Jar Jar to Anakin returning... It's a lot in a very short time."

Lucas seemed to agree, but said it was too late to make cuts. The behind-the-scenes footage shows producer Rick McCallum sitting in silence, just staring at the screen with his hand over his mouth. Lucas said:

"It boggles the mind. I have thought about this quite a bit, and the tricky part is you almost can't take any of those pieces out of it now, because each one takes you to the next place. And you can't jump because you don't know where you are."

The footage in the small theater ends and the camera starts rolling in a kitchen as Lucas, Burtt and McCallum have what seems like a slightly heated exchange.

"I do a particular kind of movie of which this is consistent. But it is a very hard movie to follow. But, at the same time, I have done it a little more extremely than I have done it in the past. It's stylistically designed to be that way, and you can't undo that, but we can diminish the affects of it. We can slow it down a little bit, so if it's intense for us, a regular person is going to go nuts."

Here is the featurette. The screening portion starts at the 54:42

Guillermo del Toro Says He Saw a UFO and He Wasn’t Impressed By the Design

guillermo-del-toro-says-he-saw-a-ufo-and-he-wasnt-impressed-by-the-design-social.jpg

Have you ever seen a UFO? My friends and I saw something once that was completely unexplainable. We even tried to chase the damn thing. That was so weird. Anyway, director Guillermo del Toro claims to have seen a UFO and talked about it with THR. The funny thing about the experience was that he didn't find the design of the UFO that impressive.

"I saw a UFO. I know this is horrible. You sound like a complete lunatic, but I saw a UFO. I didn't want to see a UFO. It was horribly designed."

I love that the first thing he notices is that the design was awful! With an imagination like his, of course, he's going to be unimpressed. He went on to recount the experience he had and how terrifying it was saying:

"I was with a friend. We bought a six-pack. We didn't consume it, and there was a place called Cerro del Cuatro, 'Mountain of the Four,' on the periphery of Guadalajara. We said, ‘Let's go to the highway.’ We sit down to watch the stars and have the beer and talk. We were the only guys by the freeway. And we saw a light on the horizon going super-fast, not linear. And I said, ‘Honk and flash the lights.’ And we started honking.
"Went from 1,000 meters away [to much closer] in less than a second — and it was so crappy. It was a flying saucer, so clichéd, with lights [blinking]. It's so sad: I wish I could reveal they're not what you think they are. They are what you think they are. And the fear we felt was so primal. I have never been that scared in my life. We jumped in the car, drove really fast. It was following us, and then I looked back and it was gone."

That's a great story! Do you have a UFO experience you want to share!?

SHAZAM! Adds Cooper Andrews to the Cast

Cooper Andrews is well-known for his role in The Walking Dead as Kingdom loyalist Jerry, and it looks like he’ll be joining Zachary Levi and the rest of the Shazam! cast in an unspecified role. I really hope Warner Bros can get their act together and make this a great movie. I think Levi is a fantastic actor and am excited to see what role Andrews will play as well. Warner Bros has some great talent to work with, hopefully, they can learn to use the talent they have and leave their legacy of turds behind. Here’s a synopsis to get you up to date:

Billy Batson, a youth who works as a radio news reporter is chosen to be a champion of good by the wizard Shazam. Whenever Billy speaks the wizard’s name, he is instantly struck by a magic lightning bolt that transforms him into an adult superhero empowered with the abilities of six mythical figures. S the wisdom of Solomon. H the strength of Hercules. A the stamina of Atlas. Z the power of Zeus. A the courage of Achilles. Finally M the speed Mercury. With a single word Billy Batson becomes Captain Marvel.

Who do you think Andrews will play in the 2019 movie?

Shazam! Is scheduled to hit theaters April 5, 2019.

You Won’t See Denis Villeneuve’s 4-Hour Edit of BLADE RUNNER 2049

blade3.0.jpg

Despite an underwhelming box office performance Denis Villeneuve‘s Blade Runner 2049 brought back many of the themes that Ridley Scott‘s sci-fi classic Blade Runner did. Possibly the total running time of the film was something that kept audiences away? But in a new interview with ScreenCrush, Villeneuve confirms that he stands by the length of the final theatrical cut because the movie could have been a lot longer.

At a total running time of 2 hours and 44 minutes, many parts of the film did feel like something was missing so additional scenes could have been beneficial. Only a few weeks after the film was released there were rumors of a four-hour original cut of Blade Runner 2049, but those rumors never made it past the editing room. Villeneuve says that the four-hour cut will never leave that room either:

[Laughs] …The thing is, it’s true that the first cut was four hours and at one point we were like, “Okay, do we go to the producer and release it in two?” But let’s say the idea of the movie being in two parts didn’t get out of the editing room. [Laughs] No, the best incarnation of the movie is what is in the theater. What was striking is that the four-hour cut was quite strong. But personally I prefer the one that is in the theater because it’s more elegant, I would say. But there are some scenes that were like [makes boosh sound]. Quite strong.

Villeneuve was never pressured from Alcon Entertainment to cut down the run time, he decided on his own to cut out nearly half of the movie.

“I think four hours was too self-indulgent. And it’s a strange conversation because we’re talking about Blade Runner, so people want to know if there are other kinds of cuts. It’s [that way] in all movies; there’s always a long cut at the beginning. The first cut is always long, and it’s a process and a lot of editing.”

Villeneuve didn’t blame the length of his final cut for poor box office results, though he did wonder if audiences were intimidated by both its length and subject matter. He said:

"People are maybe afraid of the film because it’s long and supposed to be a puzzle."

What do you think? WOuld you like to have seen the four hour cut of the film see the light of day?

New Image of Jason Mamoa as AQUAMAN and James Wan Calls it a “Classic Revenge Story”

new-image-of-jason-mamoa-as-aquaman11

Another new image from James Wan's Aquaman has been released featuring Jason Momoa in the title role. This looks like a similar setting to the previously released photo. I'm very curious about this movie and how it will turn out. I have faith that Wan will deliver a badass movie that will blow fans away. For me, Wan hasn't made a bad movie yet, which is why my expectations are high. When talking about the film with USA Today, he talks about his take on the character, saying:

“He doesn’t quite fit in, but as the story progresses, he realizes he’s the best of both worlds. Circumstances allow him to grow as a human being and then realize the bigger picture of it all and what it means to have these abilities."

He went on to talk about the design of Atlantis how it gave Wan a chance to “make something that is from our planet but at the same time, it’s a visual we’re not familiar with." He goes on to say that the film is a classic revenge story and adds "I love the simplicity of that human drive.”

Jason Momoa will be joined by Willem Dafoe as Vulko; Temuera Morrison (Green Lantern) as Tom Curry; Dolph Lundgren (The Expendables films) as Nereus; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (The Get Down) as Black Manta; Ludi Lin (Power Rangers) as Murk; with Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring films, Watchmen) as Orm/Ocean Master; and Nicole Kidman as Atlanna. Here's the synopsis:

Aquaman will center on Aquaman as a reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis who is caught between land dwellers that are always polluting the globe and his own people who are ready to invade the surface.

Aquaman is set to be released December 21, 2018.

Porgs Don’t Just Taste Like Chicken, They Sound Like Them Too

porgs-dont-just-taste-like-chicken-they-sound-like-them-too-social.jpg

From what various actors in the Star Wars franchise have said, Porgs taste like chicken. Now we're learning they apparently sound like them as well. As Skywalker sound designer Ren Klyce said, the Porg noises are slowed down Chicken chirps:

“At Skywalker Sound there’s a chicken coop with these little chickens, and Coya Elliott, our first assistant, went down and recorded those chickens. And then we took that sound and slowed it down and stretched it out and found little chirps,”

Originally, Porgs were supposed to be based on goats, and at one point sound was recorded of a goat for the film. I can't imagine a Porg with a voice like a goat, so I'm glad they went the route that they did. Thanks to i09 for giving us all the info we could ever ask for on Porgs as they were in the top 5 things I loved about this film.
