New Photo From OCEAN’S 8 and Sandra Bullock Offers New Details

I'm a big fan of Steven Soderbergh's Oceans 11 franchise and I have high hopes for this all-female spinoff film called Oceans 8. I just want the movie to have a solid story and be, at least, just as good as the films in the original trilogy. Gary Ross (Seabiscuit) is directing the film and Soderbergh is attached as a producer.

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly we have a new photo to share with you featuring the all-star female cast. That cast includes Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean; Cate Blanchette as Lou; Rihanna as Nine Ball; Mindy Kaling as Amita; Awkwafina as Constance; Helena Bonham Carteras Rose; Anne Hathaway as Daphne Kluger; and Sarah Paulson as Tammy. It looks like the photo shows them in the process of planning their heist of the century, which will take place at a New York City star-studded annual Met Gala. When talking about the film, Bullock offers some new details:

“Yes, I am Danny Ocean’s sister. I’ve been incarcerated for about five years and you find out why during the course of the film. I mean, that’s sort of a tiny subplot. But that’s, you know, but I’m definitely his sister and we definitely come from the same family and we’re both very good at what we do in our own special way. So you can only imagine that once I get out, that’s when the heist ensues.
"We’re not a reboot. We’re just a ‘this is what’s happening in 2017.’ It’s not even a passing of the torch. It’s a parallel story of another family member that was raised in the same family Danny Ocean was and what happens when Debbie steps out of jail with all of these amazing, powerful women.”

I really do like this concept and I think it will make for a fun flick! When talking about the other characters in the story, Bullock says:

"Everyone has their specialty, yes. What’s fun is that it’s not their whole life. And they haven’t been able to do what they’re brilliant at because the industry, if you can call it the industry, the industry of crime hasn’t really allowed them to excel and execute what they’re good at. So you’ll find one who’s a stay-at-home mom with two children who sells things on the QVC. And here comes Debbie Ocean who enlists their help of them, but not because she only wants females. It’s really fun."

The movie will also feature cameos by Matt Damon, James Corden as an insurance investigator, and Dakota Fanning also has a role. Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Anna Wintour, Adriana Lima and Katie Holmes will also appear.

Ross is a solid director. Seabiscuit is one of my favorite movies and I can't wait to see what he does with this movie. Ocean's 8 is set to hit theaters in the summer of 2018.

The Federation and Rebels Join Forces to Fight the Empire in TREK WARS Fan Trailer

the-federation-and-rebels-join-forces-to-fight-the-empire-in-trek-wars-fan-trailer-social.jpg

I love Star Wars. I love Star Trek. There is often heated debate in the geek community about which is better. I’ve always found this interesting since I was raised to very much enjoy both (although I will admit I prefer Star Wars), yet there are people who see the other as poison or grotesque. Maybe that’s why I loved seeing the fan-trailer Trek Wars. It combines both franchises, but not inherently as rivals. Captain Kirk teams up with the Rebel Alliance to fight the Empire who are about to use the Death Star on Earth. Can Han Solo and James T. Kirk put a stop to Darth Vader and the Emperor? Well, it’d be awesome if there was a full movie released exploring that idea (or even a slightly longer fan-made one) Which franchise do you prefer or are you truly neutral on the subject?

Jordan Peele’s TWILIGHT ZONE Series Officially Picked Up By CBS All Access

CBS All Access has officially ordered the new Twilight Zone series reboot being developed by Jordan Peele (Get Out), Simon Kinberg (X-Men), and showrunner Marco Ramirez (The Defenders, Daredevil). The only reason that I'm excited about this new series is the fact that Jordan Peele is involved.

When talking about the series, Peele said, “Too many times this year it’s felt we were living in a twilight zone, and I can’t think of a better moment to reintroduce it to modern audiences.” Kingberg went on to say, “The Twilight Zone was a touchstone in my life. The opportunity to continue its lineage is a dream come true, and I’m so thrilled to be doing it with Jordan, Marco and the team at CBS All Access.” Julie McNamara, executive VP originals at CBS All Access added:

“The original The Twilight Zone bridged science fiction, horror and fantasy together to explore human nature and provide social commentary in a way that audiences had never seen before. Under the auspices of Jordan Peele, Simon Kinberg and Marco Ramirez, and with the creative freedom that the CBS All Access platform affords, this is an incredible opportunity to bring today’s audiences a modern reimagining of this iconic series.”

The Twilight Zone is my number one favorite series of all time. It has served as inspiration for so many other stories, TV shows, and films over the years. I'm curious to see how Peele, Kinberg, and Ramirez handle this reboot, but unless I'm totally blown away by the first episode, I'm not going to subscribe to CBS' All Access streaming service for it. I can always just watch the original Twilight Zone series on Netflix or Blu-ray to get my fix.

What do you think about this new Twilight Zone series reboot? Do you think it will make CBS All Access worth the subscription?

Check Out BATTLEFRONT 2’S Hidden Character Customization Menu You’ve Been Missing

Star-Wars-Battlefront-2-Title.jpg

Sometimes we find the one thing we were looking for was right in front of us the whole time. Looks like EA managed to hide the most diverse customization menu in Star Wars Battlefront 2, for your character that is, in plain sight! It's not even in a place you wouldn't think to look, yet here I was playing as the basic start-up character designs this whole time.

It's almost incredible how obvious it is now that YouTuber Uninspired Zebra showed it off in this short, self-explanatory video. At least now we can all take the joy in picking our favorite suits and characters to play as while trying to conquer the enemies! Looking forward to seeing different faces on the battlefront like Sullustan and Nikto or my favorite Galactic Republic skin 327.

How many of you missed this menu trying to get into a game quickly rather than paying attention to the simple aesthetics?

Disney Wants Rob Marshall To Direct The Live-Action Adaptation of THE LITTLE MERMAID

Disney is looking to start moving forward on their live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. According to Deadline, the studio wants Rob Marshall to direct the film. Marshall is best known for his films Chicago, Into the Woods, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

According to the report, he is their top choice, and he's been offered the chance to direct it. They obviously have had good experiences working with him in the. past. Now we are just waiting to see if he ends up accepting the offer. Chances are we'll find out after the holidays.

The new movie will be a musical based on the classic animated film and it will feature new songs written by Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken.

Disney is finding a lot of success and make a ton of money with the live-action adaptations of their classic animated films. I have no doubt The Little Mermaid is going to be a massive hit.

Rian Johnson Will Introduce a “New Hue” of Lightsaber and He Wants Fans To Be Inspired By THE LAST JEDI

rian-johnson-will-introduce-a-new-hue-of-lightsaber-and-he-wants-fans-to-be-inspired-by-the-last-jedi-social.jpg

We've got a few new things to discuss regarding Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Director Rian Johnson and the cast are currently making the press rounds and there's some stuff that fans might be interested in knowing.

In a recent interview with Parade Magazine, Johnson teased a "new hue" of lightsaber in The Last Jedi. He wouldn't reveal what that hue is, but some fans are speculating it could be the green hue of Luke’s Return of the Jedi lightsaber. Why else wouldn't Johnson want to reveal the color? It has to be of some kind of importance. Anyway, you can jump into the speculation party in the comment section below.

In a separate interview with CB, Johnson went on to talk about how he hopes that the movie will inspire fans to grab their Star Wars toys, run into the backyard, and start playing:

"I hope they'll be happy and inspired and, you know, there's always a little bit of sadness in these movies but I hope the overall thing is it would be a thrilling Star Wars adventure. I wanted to make a movie where you come out at the end and you want to run into your backyard, grab your spaceships, and start flying them around. That kind spirit, that's Star Wars to me."

We know there are going to be some dark moments in the film because they are teased in the trailers, but in the end, Johnson obviously wants to leave audiences with a feeling of hope. Johnson goes on to reveal one thing about the movie that he feels will surprise people about the movie, and that involves its humor:

"That's one thing I hope people will be surprised about with the movie. I think it's very funny. The trailers have been kind of dark – the movie has that, but I also made a real conscious effort for it to be a riot. I want it to have all the things tonally that I associate with Star Wars, which is not just the Wagner of it. It's also the Flash Gordon."

That's what I have been hoping to see in this movie, so it's good to hear that the Star Wars humor that fans love will be there. The only bit of humor we've really seen is Chewbacca smacking a porg out of his way.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters on December 15.

Honest Trailer For THE SANTA CLAUSE Really Brings Home How Twisted The Concept Is

honest-trailer-for-the-santa-clause-really-brings-home-how-twisted-the-concept-is-social.jpg

While I accept that the 2nd & 3rd films of the franchise were utter garbage, I've always had a soft spot for The Santa Clause as I watched it a lot in my youth. Now that I've seen this Honest Trailer, I'm beginning to question if even that film is worthy of the Christmas spirit as it is really a twisted concept. Why does Santa Clause have a card on hand to explain what to do if he dies? Why does Tim Allen get bamboozled into the role of St. Nick? Why did so many kids in the 90s have that weird coconut style hairdo?

None of those questions will be answered, and plenty more will be asked. Have your eyes truly been opened by watching this trailer below?

The New PREDATOR Movie Will Focus on Predator Technology and Their Goals

The New PREDATOR Movie Will Focus on Predator Technology and Their Goals-social.jpg

Some additional information has surfaced for Shane Black's The Predator and it might interest some of the fans out there.

Thomas Jane previously offered some details on the story that the film will tell. According to him, the film follows a group of crazy shellshocked war veterans who end up hearing that a Predator ship has landed and they set out on a mission to take them down. You can read the full details of the story here. Then Edward James Olmos explained that the movie would also be filled with humor.

Thanks to an interview with Jake Busey, we now know a couple other new things regarding the movie. While talking with Pop Culture, Busey explains how this movie falls in line with the original, saying:

“This one definitely falls in line with the original franchise in that it does focus on the technology that the Predators have. It focuses on what the goal of the Predators is, and what their modus operandi, and why they come to the planet, and that type of thing. It’s definitely in line with the original franchise.”

That sounds great! What's cool about Busey's character is that he is going to play the son of his father’s character from Predator 2. In regards to that, he says it will “add some depth and connectivity between the two films, sort of tying the franchise together in a tighter knot having the characters more closely bound.”

The rest of the cast includes Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele), Trevante Rhodes (Westworld), Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), Jacob Tremblay (Room), Yvonne Strahovski (Dexter), Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones), and Sterling K. Brown (The People vs. O.J. Simpson).

The Predator opens in theaters on August 3, 2018.

Games Based on Comic Book Franchises That You Must Play!

comic_book_Collage.jpg

As a whole video games based on comic book franchises have met with more critical success than games based on cinematic franchises.  Part of the reasoning behind this is that comic books have a natural affinity with the transition to gaming: bold characters, super powers that can empower the player, the rich environments, and story lines that can be drawn on. All these things can help bring exciting and fun gameplay experiences.

Comic book narratives are something I love; the integration between written narrative and illustrative depth has always fascinated me.  Every time a video game based on a comic book franchise appears, I buy it. Sometimes I've been stung by that, but most times I have a satisfying and immersive gaming experience.

So here are a few of my favourite games in this genre.

The Punisher

Voliton's The Punisher  is a grisly game where you can torture enemies in order to gain information.  One of the most satisfying and surprising elements of this game is how utterly faithful this adaptation is.  It's also a satisfying shooter with some innovative techniques which vary the gameplay.  The violence in the game is graphic; in fact, this is one of the goriest titles on this list, heads being blown away and arms and legs being torn off by the blasts of your powerful shotgun.  The interrogation techniques are what this game is mostly widely known for, taking an enemy and threatening them by applying just enough pressure to the analogue stick. Once you find out what you need to know, you then brutally execute them.

The interrogation techniques vary from smashing your target's head on the concrete floor to feeding them slowly, feet first, into a wood chipper

The interrogation techniques vary from smashing your target's head on the concrete floor to feeding them slowly, feet first, into a wood chipper

The interrogations are contextual to the environment, allowing you to smash the target's face against glass windows of a high-rise building, threatening to throw them through it, or immersing a villain in the hot oils of a deep, fat fryer in a kitchen.  The facial animation of the victim displays their mounting horror and it brings a form of empowerment for the player when assuming the role of this viscous Vigilante from Marvel's finest comics.  Although this is a fairly old title - having been released in 2005 - the recent and excellent series of The Punisher on Netflix has shown that perhaps this title deserves an HD rerelease.

The Walking Dead

This modern game series developed and published by Telltale Games is based more on the comic book franchise than the TV series that was spawned from it.  It's an adventure game which is emotionally devastating and powerfully told.  It focuses on a group of survivors who are desperately attempting to stay alive in a world occupied by the undead, and sometimes trapped by ruthless people willing to stay alive.

Some of the Walking Dead's main cast - the decisions you make will affect their future

Some of the Walking Dead's main cast - the decisions you make will affect their future

The first season of this series builds up the characters and their relationships to one another. It creates a sense of atmosphere, and when the player has to make a decision which will branch the story line later, it truly means something.

Injustice 2

A follow up to the successful one-on-one beat-em up by Netherrealm Studios, this Mortal Kombat influenced series includes the chance to fight as some of the most popular characters from the DC universe - as well as some of the more lesser known individuals in its mighty roster.  Arguably, this title tells a better Batman vs Superman story than it's filmatic counterpart.  The narrative sees Brainiac, destroyer of Krypton, come to earth in an attempt to kill the last Kryptonians (Supergirl is present in this game) and destroy Earth.  Superman has been imprisioned after the events of the first game and some characters are attempting to free him, including Black Adam and Wonderwoman.  Others, like Batman, see him as a threat to all life on earth and want to keep him locked up.  This creates a fantastic tension within the DC Universe and a compelling plot in single player mode.

Injustice2-Batman-Superman.jpg

The Multiplayer aspect also shines, offering players loot boxes filled with random goodies, experience points, and better armour to genuinely affect gameplay. Additionally, the fighting mechanics are solid.  The environmental details are amazing and evoke famous moments in DC comic book history with small incidental memorabilia present for the eagle eyed.  It's great to see the DC franchise having a game of such quality, and crafted around the characters rather than just shoehorning them in for revenue's sake.

Lego Marvel Superheroes 2

The Lego games have a very special place in my gaming heart. They bring amazing authenticity to whatever franchise they riff off, interesting moments, stellar co-op gameplay, and a multitude of playable characters. One of the biggest draws in Marvel Superheroes 2 is the personality that bursts through in the game, whether it's jamming to Mr Blue Sky with Guardians of the Galaxy's Star Lord and his awesome mix tapes, or enjoying the quips that Spiderman utters with trademark ease.  You will always find reasons to smile while playing this game.  I've had moments playing with my nephew where he doesn't always get each of the clever references to Marvel's history which cleverly make it onto the screen as homages for the dedicated fan. Other times, he doesn't know who some of the more obscure characters are.  I get to pause the game and explain some of their powers and origins and he will play as them to 'try them out.'  This game gives us the ability to test-drive Superheroes (and Villains!)

A vast array of Marvel legends to play as!

A vast array of Marvel legends to play as!

The strength of this game is the ability to reach into the annals of Marvel and embrace all aspects of the company's comic book history.  You will see the influence of the movies - with Chris Pratt and Zoe Salanda present from the Guardians of the Galaxy movie -  but also delving into the comics with villains like Black Knight and Kraven the Hunter.  There's so much time spent on each of the character's unique abilities and alternative costumes.  You can play as the camera wielding Peter Parker, or a medieval Captain America complete with sword and shield.  These variations are fun and add more depth to this action puzzler.  Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 is a unique, fun family game with depth and that's fairly rare.

Rogue Trooper Redux

An HD re-release of British comic's popular character Rogue Trooper came to our next generation consoles and PC in October.  This third-person shooter captures the story of a genetically engineered soldier from the future who is bred to fight an ongoing war in a toxic environment.  These cloned soldiers have one unique ability; when they die, the computer chip which houses their personality and experiences can be slotted into another trooper's equipment, namely the helmet, gun, and equipment bag.  The main character, Rogue, is an all-out guns blazing kind of marine, tough and capable.  He finds three of his comrades dying and extracts their chips and inserts them into the empty slots in his equipment to save them for re-cloning.  They each assume the functions of that piece of equipment that they are bonded to. For example, Gunnar who controls the assault rifle can be placed on the ground and act as a turret against oncoming enemies.

There's plenty of opportunity for Squad Based mechanics in this Third Person Shooter as well

There's plenty of opportunity for Squad Based mechanics in this Third Person Shooter as well

It's a faithful, fun adaptation of a comic book creation by the legendary Gerry Finley-Day and its release in HD shows that Rogue's ongoing adventures still resonate with fans of 2000AD today.

These are just a few of my favourite games that are based on comic book franchises.  There's a wealth of them out there and most of them are great representations of the franchise they are based of.

Let me know if you agree or disagree or if you have any particular favourites of your own?
