Hot Topic Unveils Their PRINCESS MONONOKE Fashion Line With Promo Video

Hot Topic and Her Universe have released a new fashion line and this one is inspired be Studio Ghibli's classic anime Princess Mononoke. There are all kinds of different styles including the wolf sweater. I imagine that will be the top seller, but I also don't think a lot of people would wear it outside of a geek convention setting. Would any of you?

These geek culture inspired clothes that Hot Topic and Her Universe are coming up with are pretty cool. These are all currently on sale now. If you're interested in buying, click here.

$ (1).jpegscott-eastwood-suits-up-as-a-jaeger-pilot-in-new-pacific-rim-uprising-poster1

A couple new posters have been released for director Steven S. DeKight's Pacific Rim Uprising. One of the posters offers us our first good look at Scott Eastwood in the film. As you can see, he's all suited up and ready ride into battle piloting his Jaeger the Gypsy Avenger. He and John Boyega's characters are co-pilots in the story. We got our first poster featuring Boyega's character earlier this week. I've also included another poster for the film that you can check out below. It's more of a stylized piece that comes with the tagline, "Rise Up".

It’s been ten years since The Battle of the Breach and the oceans are still, but restless. Vindicated by the victory at the Breach, the Jaeger program has evolved into the most powerful global defense force in human history. The PPDC now calls upon the best and brightest to rise up and become the next generation of heroes. When the Kaiju threat returns, we will be ready.

Pacific Rim: Uprising is being directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil) and it also stars Jing Tian (The Great Wall, Kong: Skull Island), Wesley Wong (Buxiude Shiguang, Sorry I Love You), Lily Ji (Transformers: Age of Extinction), Lan Yingying (Surgeons Story, Empresses in the Palace), Qian Yongchen (The War of Beauties, The Golden Age of the Leftover Ladies), Zhang Jin (Ip Man 3, Kill Zone 2), and newcomers Cailee Spaeny and Chen Zitong.

Pacific Rim: Uprising will be released in theaters on March 23th, 2018.

Another Amusing Trailer For Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig’s Shrinking Comedy DOWNSIZING

We've got another trailer here for you to watch for director Alexander Payne's new comedy Downsizing. I've always enjoyed the films that Payne has made such as Sideways, Election and The Descendants, but this one is so different from anything that he's down before as it deals with people shaking themselves down to five-inch-tall people so that they can live a better a life. It's so odd, and that why I love what I'm seeing!

The movie stars Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig as a couple who decide to undergo the shrinking process. Here's the synopsis with some additional details:

Downsizing imagines what might happen if, as a solution to over-population, Norwegian scientists discover how to shrink humans to five inches tall and propose a 200-year global transition from big to small. People soon realize how much further money goes in a miniaturized world, and with the promise of a better life, everyman Paul Safranek (Matt Damon) and wife Audrey (Kristen Wiig) decide to abandon their stressed lives in Omaha in order to get small and move to a new downsized community — a choice that triggers life-changing adventures.

When previously talking about the film, the director compares his film to something you might see in Black Mirror, but without the sci-fi feeling:

"The basic premise is a very delicious one, and it’s the premise that saw Jim and me through the many years to get this made… it’s very much like the previous movie Jim and I did, in that it takes something inherently absurd and ridiculous, but tells it with utter earnestness… kind of like what you see in Black Mirror. Some episodes of Black Mirror take a premise and run with it, but I’m not interested in the science fiction feeling; I always aspire to make a Hal Ashby or a Robert Altman movie, and the plot has a certain episodic structure."

The film has a great cast that also includes Kristen Wiig, Christoph WaltzLaura DernAlec BaldwinJason SudeikisNeil Patrick Harris, and Udo Kier.

Downsizing opens in theaters on December 22nd.

Matthew Vaughn Says GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Stole What He Wanted To Do With FLASH GORDON

With Kingsman: The Golden Circle finished, director Matthew Vaughn can start focusing his attention on other film projects that he's got in the pipeline. One of those movies is a new feature film adaptation of Flash Gordon, which he's been signed on to direct since 2015.

During a recent interview with Collider, the director talked about the film. First and foremost, he says that he's still developing it. However, he had to rethink the direction that he wants to take the film because he said that Guardians of the Galaxy stole what he wanted to do.

"We’ve been working on it. For me, the only problem with Flash Gordon is Guardians [of the Galaxy] kind of stole what I would have liked to have done with it. You’ve got Star Wars, you’ve got Guardians, so you’ve got to have your own space opera, but you have to find something that can survive among these two very, very great franchises."

Vaughn just needs to take all of the elements that made the 1930s and 1950s sci-fi pulp comic so great and make a film out of it. Not sure why Guardians of the Galaxy is stopping him from doing that. All the elements to make the film different from anything else is right there!

As fun as the original 80s movie is, this new film should solely be inspired by the source material. I'm a huge fan of the Flash Gordon comics and with Guardians and Star Wars so popular right now, it's time to get it out there when it will be successful.

Vaughn also has a fantastic and fun filmmaking style of his own that would separate the film from everything else. He just needs to do it.

J.J. Abrams is Developing a Live-Action Adaptation of The Hit Anime YOUR NAME

jj-abrams-is-developing-a-live-action-adaptation-of-the-hit-anime-your-name-social.jpg

J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot and Paramount Pictures have acquired the rights to the incredible Japanese anime blockbuster film Your Name. I don't know if you had a chance to see the film while it was in theaters, it was absolutely wonderful. I loved it, and it was one of my favorite films of the year.

Abrams will be developing a live-action version of the film and he will be working with the Japan-based Toho Co., Ltd., which produced the original movie. The screenplay will be written by Eric Heisserer, who wrote the script for Arrival.

The story follows two teenagers named Mitsuha and Taki who are complete strangers living separate lives until they suddenly switch places. "Mitsuha wakes up in Taki's body, and he in hers. This occurrence happens randomly, and they must adjust their lives around each other. Yet, somehow, it works. They build a connection by leaving notes for one another until they wish to finally meet. But something stronger than distance may keep them apart."

I really hope that they don't screw this up. I think Abrams is a fantastic filmmaker but as long as the original producers of the anime are involved, though, there's hope that fans will get a solid adaptation. One of the producers of the original film Genki Kawamura had this to say in a statement:

“Just like in the film it feels like a dream. Mr. Abrams and his team have captivated audiences in their masterful reinvention of known properties. And Mitsuha and Taki have found a perfect narrator, Mr. Heisserer, to tell their sci-fi infused love story, which gave the film such drive. The meetings so far have been creatively stimulating with fantastic ideas that no doubt will make for a great movie. I am greatly honored to work with these incredible creators in bringing to audiences the Hollywood live-action version of ‘Your Name.'”

Well, if he's excited, then maybe fans of the film should be excited as well. As a fan of the original film, I really hope they can pull this off and make a great live-action adaptation. What your thoughts on all this?

BLADE RUNNER 2049 Director Denis Villenueve is in Talks To Direct CLEOPATRA Epic

The director of Blade Runner 2049, Denis Villenueve is lining up another directing gig. According to Deadline, he's in talks with Sony Pictures to helm one of their highest profile films... Cleopatra.

The film is said to be an "epic female empowerment story of one of history’s most complex heroines." It will be an adaptation of the biography written by Stacy Schiff. The film project has already gone through a few directors including James Cameron, Ang Lee, Paul Greengrass, Martin Scorsese, and David Fincher. It looks like Villenueve might be their lucky charm.

The filmmaker has helmed some amazing film such as Prisoners, Sicario, and Arrival. Blade Runner 2049 is also getting amazing reviews, many of which are calling the film a masterpiece. It would be great if he ended up taking the gig because I know he would do some great things with it.

Sony has a script for Cleopatra that was written by David Scarpa (The Last Castle), Eric Roth (Forrest Gump), and Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential) have all worked on. Then there's Angelina Jolie who has been wanted for the role of the Egyptian queen ever since the project was put into development. There's no word on whether that will happen, though.

Here's the description of the book that the film will be based on:

Her palace shimmered with onyx and gold but was richer still in political and sexual intrigue. Above all else, Cleopatra was a shrewd strategist and an ingenious negotiator. She was married twice, each time to a brother. She waged a brutal civil war against the first and poisoned the second; incest and assassination were family specialties. She had children by Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, two of the most prominent Romans of the day. With Antony she would attempt to forge a new empire, in an alliance that spelled both their ends. Famous long before she was notorious, Cleopatra has gone down in history for all the wrong reasons. Her supple personality and the drama of her circumstances have been lost. In a masterly return to the classical sources, Stacy Schiff boldly separates fact from fiction to rescue the magnetic queen whose death ushered in a new world order.

Villenueve is also working on a new feature film adaptation of Dune, which is another film to look forward to. Would you like to see the director take on Cleopatra?

New STRANGER THINGS Season 2 EW Covers and Details – All Roads Lead to the “Shadow Monster”

new-stranger-things-season-2-ew-covers-and-details-all-roads-lead-to-the-shadow-monster1

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have three new covers to share with you featuring the cast of the upcoming second season of Stranger Things. They include the four boys, Eleven, Chief Hopper, Joyce Byers, and her new boyfriend Bob Newby. I also included a video interview that features David Harbour, Winona Ryder, and Sean Astin talking about the series.

Co-creator Ross Duffer also sheds a bit of light on the darkness that the series will entail. As you know, Season 1 focuses on finding Will and taking down the Demogorgon. It's explained that all roads in Season 2 will lead to the "shadow monster", which is the nickname given to that giant creature that we see in the trailer. Will first meets this creature in "PTSD-like visions of the Upside Down." Duffer goes on to explain:

“It’s all connected to this singular threat, which is tied into this shape that Will sees in the sky."

Then we also get a little more hype for Season 2. Matt Duffer says, “Each episode is building on the last one. It gets much crazier than it ever got in season one.” Then Finn Wolfhard says, “It’s Stranger Things but just sorta hopped up a little. It’s almost like season 1 was drinking a Coke and season 2 they drank a Red Bull.”

It sounds like fans have a lot to look forward to seeing in Season 2 and I can't wait!
