Trailer For Two 30-minute STAR WARS: FORCES OF DESTINY Specials Coming To Disney Channel

Star-Wars-Forces-of-Destiny-trailer-700x300.jpg

Earlier this year, the first eight Star Wars: Forces of Destiny shorts hit the internet and everyone seems to love them. (aside from a few haters). Now we're getting a new trailer that promises two 30-minute TV specials coming to the Disney Channel next month. Both will be complete with never-before-seen content. Watch the newest trailer below, and refresh your memory about what these shorts are all about.

Disney says the specials will include:

“A total of eight never-before-seen installments” along with compilations of the popular animated shorts that have already been released that feature Rey (Daisy Ridley), Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), Sabine Wren (Tiya Sircar), Princess Leia (Shelby Young), Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein), and Padmé Amidala (Catherine Taber). The new shorts will also include characters like “Han Solo, Hera Syndulla, Finn, Maz Kanata and many others,” so Star Wars vets John BoyegaMatt Lanter, and Lupita Nyong’o will be getting in on the voiceover action.

Forces of Destiny was launched this summer as a way to shine a light on the female characters in the Star Wars universe, but Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy pointed out that the short films are “for anyone who has been inspired by Leia’s heroism, Rey’s courage, or Ahsoka’s tenacity.”

For all you die-hards you should know that all these shorts are considered to be Star Wars Canon. Each of the stories go through the Lucasfilm Story Group to make sure the details all make sense in the larger context of the franchise. Lucasfilm Story Group member Carrie Beck explains:

“One of the opportunities here was to tell the stories in between the larger moments and imagine some of the ways our characters have crossed. It’s all part of the larger swath of storytelling.”

As for the shorts, we can expect some crossover between the characters in these new installments. The first batch of short films debuted on Disney’s YouTube page and was eventually collected into a TV special of their own; this time it sounds like the reverse will happen, and the new shorts will hit YouTube after they premiere on television.

The new series of Star Wars: Forces of Destiny shorts will debut on the Disney Channel on October 1, 2017, and October 29, 2017, at 8 pm.

Danny Elfman Talks About Getting To Use Superman’s Original Theme in JUSTICE LEAGUE Score

After Joss Whedon was brought in to take over the directing duties for Zack Snyder on Justice League, he ended up bringing in Danny Elfman to help out with the musical score on the movie. He previously worked with Elfman on Avengers: Age of Ultron.

During a recent interview with Billboard, Elfman talked about the movie's score. Specifically, he talked about Superman's theme. When talking about his experience he says:

It was great. It was like I never left because I’m using the same thematic material that I used back then. It never actually went away [Laughs.] It just was great fun.
"There are a few little fan moments. I instated a moment of the Wonder Woman theme that Hans Zimmer did for Batman Vs. Superman, but I also had two minutes where I had the pleasure of saying, 'Let’s do John Williams’ Superman.'"

That's so cool that they are finally looking to incorporate the original John Williams Superman theme into his own melody. Elfman goes on to say:

"And that for me was heaven, because now I have a melody to twist, and I’m using it in an actually very dark way, in a dark moment. It’s the kind of thing that some fans will notice. Some won’t. It’s a moment where we’re really not sure whose side he’s on."

It's interesting to hear that he is going to be twisting the melody to fit this new version of Superman. I was kind of hoping he wouldn't have to twist it at all, but it obviously will fit what is going on in the movie with the character in the movie. It also sounds like Elfman had to do a little convincing to make it happen, and he has good reasoning! He went on to say:

"The people at DC are starting to understand we’ve got these iconic bits from our past and that’s part of us, that’s part of our heritage — we shouldn’t run away from that. Contemporary thinking is, every time they reboot something, you have to start completely from scratch — which, of course, audiences will tell us again and again, is bullshit. Because the single-most surviving and loved theme in the world is Star Wars, which they had the good sense to not dump for the reboots. And every time it comes back, the audience goes crazy."

He makes a great point there! Unfortunately, the theme is only going to be used as a teasing way to indicate where Superman’s loyalties lie. I'm still curious to see what he came up with. I just wish we would have gotten a full blown classic Superman theme moment in the movie! The composer then shared an experience where he was working with Whedon on a particular moment involving the Batmobile saying:

“It was the same as when I worked with [Whedon] on Ultron. He appreciates melodies and pieces. He’s like, ‘Oh, you’ve given it identity here!’ There was a moment where the Batmobile shoots out of a thing and he goes, ‘Go batshit crazy here! Batman the shit out of it!’ When I’m using the Batman theme, I’m using the melodic sense of it, I wasn’t doing full-on Batman, and there’s a moment when he says, ‘No, right here, Full on!’”

When talking about working on the themes fro the new characters in the film such as Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg, he said:

“I created very simple motifs. There are so many themes, you can’t just do a big theme for everything. So i created a motif for Flash, for Aquaman and Cyborg — but they’re very simple things, and [DC] understood. I said, “These things may never be used again, but I’m giving you all the components, should you wish to have things to build on.” So they either will or they won’t, but that’s how I approach a project like this. You have to take the attitude that this is the beginning of a mythology and it all matters, it all comes to fruition, and with any luck they will.”

I've been a fan of Danny Elfman for years so it's always cool to see him take on new composing gigs like this. It's will be fun to hear what he and Junkie XL come up with. Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017.

The Classic 1970s Series KUNG FU is Getting a Female Lead Sequel By Greg Berlanti

Fox is teaming up with Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl producer Greg Berlanti to develop a sequel to the classic 1970s series Kung Fu. The original show starred David Carradine, and this new series will focus on a female lead. I personally don't care who plays the lead as long as they can kick ass and the story is solid. With Berlanti developing the series there's a good chance it will turn out solid.

The original show was created by Ed Spielman. It was set in the 1880s and followed the adventures of Kwai Chang Caine (Carradine), "a Shaolin monk who travels the American Old West armed only with his spiritual training – including a ton of aphorisms – and his skill in martial arts in search of his half-brother." Thanks to Deadline, we have a description of the new series, which gives us an idea of where the story will go:

The new Kung Fu follows the adventures of Lucy Chang, a Buddhist monk and kung fu master who travels through 1950s America armed only with her spiritual training and her martial arts skills as she searches for the man who stole her child years before. When she teams with JT Cullen, a charming Korean War vet with his own secrets, the two form an unlikely alliance that allows Lucy to continue her search while also coming to the aid of people in need. (It is unclear whether Carradine’s character and Lucy Chang are related.)

I love that the series is a period piece that's set in the 50s! That's such a fun setting that will be fun for the creative team to play in and it will add some great story and character elements.

The series is being written by Arrow executive producer and writer Wendy Mericie. I'm actually kind of looking forward to seeing how this series comes together. What do you think are you up for seeing this sequel series to Kung Fu?

The Odds of Survival are a Million to Fun in This THOR: RAGNAROK BTS Video and Promo Art

the-odds-of-survival-are-a-million-to-fun-in-this-thor-ragnarok-bts-video-and-promo-art1

Marvel Studios has released a new behind the scenes video for Thor: Ragnarok featuring some fun footage from the set of the highly anticipated movie. The featurette puts a focus on bringing more fun and more attitude to the franchise. As you've seen in the trailers, they've certainly succeeded in that. This is unlike any other Thor film that we've seen and I love the direction that they've taken it!

On top of the video footage from the film and the set, it also includes interviews with director Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth. I also included a new piece of epic promo art that you can see above created by Andy Park for the Art of the Film book that will be released for the movie. I love that it has the same vibe and style as a Drew Struzan poster.

I'm excited to share the news that Tom Hanks will be reprising his role of his SNL character David S. Pumpkins in a new animated Halloween special being developed at NBC!

I love Tom Hanks and I love this amusing character that he plays! According to Variety, “The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special” "is based on the viral “Haunted Elevator” sketch from the Oct. 22, 2016 SNL telecast that featured Hanks as mystery man David S. Pumpkins, on an elevator wearing a pumpkin suit and surrounded by two skeleton dancers, played by Mikey Day and Bobby Moynihan."

As far as the story for the special goes, It will be set in a small suburban town on All Hallows’ Eve and "centers on David Pumpkins and his skeleton sidekicks who show a young boy and his sister the true meaning of Halloween, answering none of their questions along the way."

To make things even better, Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage will provide the voice of one of the characters in the Special as well! How freakin' cool is that!?

George Cheeks, president of business operations and late night programming for NBC had this to say in a statement:

“It’s scary how quickly the original ‘SNL’ sketch caught on, and we’re thrilled that Tom Hanks is back to keep the fun going."

This is going to be great and I'm pumped up about watches by it. I also love that we are getting a new animated Halloween special!

The half-hour special will air on Saturday, October 28th at 11:30pm ET/PT.
