J.J. Abrams Has Officially Signed On to Direct STAR WARS: EPISODE IX!

Lucasfilm has officially announced that Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams is coming back to direct Star Wars: Episode IX. I guess we shouldn't be too surprised. It was rumored that Lucasfilm wanted to bring Abrams back and it made sense that they would want to work with something that they can trust. Here's the info that was posted on StarWars.com:

J.J. Abrams, who launched a new era of Star Wars with The Force Awakens in 2015, is returning to complete the sequel trilogy as writer and director of Star Wars: Episode IX. Abrams will co-write the film with Chris Terrio. Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm.
“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

I have no doubt that Abrams will give Lucasfilm and the fans a satisfying conclusion to the new trilogy he started in the Star Wars saga.

As we previously reported, director Colin Trevorrow was fired from Episode IX because he was apparently very difficult to work with. Lucasfilm won't have any major headaches with Abrams because they know and like how he works.

Abrams previously said that he wasn't looking to director another Star Wars film:

“It was a wonderful way to visit a place that meant so much to me and obviously so many. I knew that if it worked, it was the perfect time to step down – and if it didn’t, no one would want me to do it anyway.”

Obviously, they did want him and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy managed to persuade him to come back at least one more time. Remember, she had to really try to persuade him to come on board to direct The Force Awakens the first time around because he was reluctant.

I'm happy that Abrams will be directing Episode IX and I can't wait to see how he ends up bring this trilogy to a close! Are you happy that Abrams is coming back to the franchise?
